Just the night, about 8 hours. Our puppies are 5 weeks old (English Pointers, a medium sized breed) now and have been staying with their momma in a heated garage since they were born. I really want to let the momma dog sleep in the yard (unlike my German Shepherd, she has never been a house dog) because she is pooping huge mounds in the garage and it reeks horribly all throughout the house. Will the puppies be alright if they're away from their momma for 8 hours? They've been eating a "cereal" mix of dry puppy food mixed with milk and slightly heated so I could leave that for them when I go to bed if you think that would help.

My dog does not like to be inside, she will only come in if I call her in and she will only stay if she is being petted as soon as you stop petting her she goes outside on her own will ? Does she not have the pack instinct that I hear others talking about?

I have a 17 month old daughter and we're looking into getting a dog. We want a dog that is a good protector but also good with children.

We were thinking Beauceron or Doberman (not sure if THAT one is good with children but my godmother bred them when I was 5 and the Mom LOVED me very much).

I'm allergic to long haired so it would have to be a short hair dog.

Any suggestions?

I told my friend that she could stay at my house for 2 weeks . She called me up today (she left a message, i havent responded yet) and wanted to know if she could bring Baxter her 2 year old pit bull with her. Ive never met this dog, and Im not sure I really want him in my house. Her last pit bull (passed away) was not the friendliest dog ,but she thought he was the best behaved dog ever. I wouldnt mind him coming if it was just me,but ive got 3 young kids, a husband, 3 dogs and a cat . She gets very defensive when ever anyone starts bashing" pit bulls. How can I politely ask her to leave Baxter at home without offending her . ? Tips ,suggestions appreciated.

Tonight we went to the dog park for 1 hour then we walked for 30 minutes. I got in, took my shoes off and while I was putting them away in the closet he had time to grab my glove and ran away all proud, I caught him, retrieved my glove and there he is already in the closet I had forgot to close and he's gone again with a running shoe this time. I run after him get the shoe back and while I put it away he's made it to my bedroom and took down and gathered over the floor the pile of clothes I had folded and put at the foot of my bed. No no no I say!! I take 2 minutes to pick up my 'clean' clothes from the floor and start looking for the little devil when I find him in the kitchen shewing on the phone extension, now the phone will ring one time out of 2.

I wish you all a nice evening! May it be as fun as mine.

Ok, I'd like suggestions for naming this puppy i rescued from the pound. It's a pitbull/shepherd mix and is rather large for it's age.

I'm a sucker for unusual/unique names like Chise (pronounced Chee-say) Winay, Marka, Chatima, and Ibanez. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I have a black lab, do you think that bringing a miniature pinscher in the house would make the dogs get too crazy inside, or will they play outside and settle down a little inside. Would getting a miniature pinscher give company and companionship to the lab or would it turn out bad.

Hi all.

I have always trained my own dogs. I have a pup that I just adopted and she is about 4 months old. She was potty trained in 4 days, she will sit, laydown, and heel right beside me.

However as she will heel...if she is around a whole bunch of chaos she will just dart off. I love her to death but she is so hard headed....more hard headed than any other dog I have trained before.

So I guess I just want some advice as to how I can get her to heel, or come and actually stay put around a lot of distractions, without having to get after her a thousand times. Any advice would be awesome!

Thankyou in advance for reading :o)

Has anyone ever put warmed neomycin ointment in their dog's ear to treat an ear infection?

The extra strength neomycin antibiotic ointment that is available over-the-counter for use on cuts and abrasions contains the exact same *active* ingredients as the *prescription* neomycin ear drops used for ear infections. The only difference is that the antibiotic ointment has oil (basically vaseline) in it, and the ear drops are watery as opposed to oily.

So...has anyone here used the over the counter antibiotic ointment in their dog's ear for an ear infection? If so, what results did you have?

Just curious.
