i'd wait another month or so....and then feed him a QUALITY adult food.....(i dont buy into the "large breed" labeled foods, as much as i do the quality of the food itself)......
You can even feed the puppy food til hes about 15 or 16 months if you want, for its vitamin and mineral content...and slowly add the adult food to it then...mixing together.
...and i hope youve started him on some veggies too, raw veggies..........No rawhide products, ....but i'm sure you know all that already. good luck.

Right now he is still considered a puppy until 12-15 months. I would continue feeding him puppy chow for large breeds, it has a higher fat content and protien for his large bones that are still growing. Best Wishes...German Sheperds are amazing dogs!!! And consider the higher quality foods as well, they're worth the money spent.

Wait until he's a year old, than slowly switch to adult food. Mix the 2 foods together for a few days and then stop feeding the puppy food. Good Luck.

I've always been told to feed large breed puppy food for a year to 18 months. I have dobermans and that's what I've done, so far so good.

Not until he's past the one-year mark and yes, he is considered a large breed. Good Luck, Buddy

By the way, he won't be fully grown until he's three years old so don't be surprised if he sometimes experiences puppy-brain!!

You should discuss with the dog's breeder and your vet about when to switch your dog. With big dogs, I would feed puppy food until at least 18 months, unless there are good reasons not to (the dog is no longer tolerating puppy food, is becoming very overweight, etc) and I really recommend not making the switch until the "experts" tell you to. Probably feed him the 'baby' food for large breeds.

He isn't an adult, so no adult food right now.
(but I'm no vet)

Definitely. If you are currently feeding puppy food, it has has more protein and nutrients to encourage growth. You want slow healthy growth and you could have gone to an adult food a long time ago.

After 12 months old give him the adult food! Even the day he turns 12 months!

You can if you want to, it won't hurt him. At 12 months is the normal time period to give adult dog food. One month isn't going to hurt him. Just remember to be consistent in his diet to avoid problems in the future. Oh, and NO people food, no matter what they tell you, it isn't good for them.
