Look in the phone book. Check out the local animal shelter (run by the city) and humane society, all of which can be found by dialing 4-1-1 if you can't find it in the phone book. I would also post ad's on sites such as Craiglist or Kijiji which can help aid in finding the dog.
If you don't have your animal microchipped at this point in time, I would suggest doing it when you find your dog, as it will be scanned when the animal is found and reveal your name and address so the dog can be brought back to you.

ASPCA (Association for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)
Humane Society
Animal Control - go there! Do NOT rely on the phone. And make it snappy since many strays are euthanized after 3 days - sooner if there is no room at the animal shelter. Check with both your city and county.
Go to the local vets in your area. Most have bulletin boards and will allow you to post a lost ad. Don't make it so tiny someone won't notice it but on the other hand don't get greedy and make it too big (most of those bulletin boards are full). Talk to the vet techs or front desk clerk and ask if anyone brought in an injured animal fitting the description of your dog. And don't just phone - go there! These are busy people who have their own work to do. If you are too lazy to make the effort, why should they take time out of their busy day helping injured and sick and dying animals to do your work for you? So go in and ask politely; many will be happy to help as best they can. Some kind samaritan may have found your dog and brought him in.
Post a "lost" ad in your local newspaper (yes, you will have to pay a nominal amount). And check the "found" section of the ads. Most papers allow found ads for free as a courtesy to folks who are trying to be kind and do the right thing.
And go down the road and look around in all directions. Don't forget to look under bushes, etc. A frightened dog or an injured one will hide. Remember his level and look accordingly; not just at your level.

First put up fliers around your town with a picture of the dog and your number. Call your vet and let them know that your dog is missing and that if anyone calls with your dog tag numbers have the vet call you. Secondly you need to call your local animal shelter or police station. Report that your dog is missing, give them information on the dog (age, breed, sex etc) and give them your number if you hear anything. Most dogs come back after time because they know where home is and they'll be hungry. Don't Worry :)

Phone book, or if your city has 311 or directory assistance. You should also call your local humane society and vets near you.
If you haven't already, look around you neighbour hood and ask people if they have seen your dog, bring a picture too.
Everyday or 2, go to animal services to see if they have your dog, calling and checking the website may not be up to date or not have description that you would recognize.
Good luck finding your dog.

Google animal control for your city. There will be numbers listed. The animal control in my area has a board for lost and found pets.
Also, post on craigslist, put fliers up, go door to door and so on.

Humane Society is usually what the pound is under in most cities. Best of luck to you as I know it can be devastating to lose a dog.
i will say a prayer you find the little pooch safe and sound.
