Ok, I'd like suggestions for naming this puppy i rescued from the pound. It's a pitbull/shepherd mix and is rather large for it's age.

I'm a sucker for unusual/unique names like Chise (pronounced Chee-say) Winay, Marka, Chatima, and Ibanez. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

My apologies, I forgot to mention that it's female.

My suggestion is to look in that puppies face and the first name that pops into your head is her name. You want her name to match her and her personality.

1. Choose a name that is ideally one or no more than two sylables long. Longer names are difficult for some dogs to recognize.

2. Don't pick a name that will be similar to a command you're likely to use for your dog (Sid and sit, Shay and stay).

3. I wouldn't recommend naming the dog after anyone in your family. Folks tend to see it as bad karma if the dog named after your brother dies or runs away. Your girlfriend (or boyfriend) may initially view it as a compliment but then come to view this as "I'm considered on the same level as their dog."

4. Think about what is important to you. What are your values? Who do you admire? What about the characteristics or nature of that dog (Mocha, Player, Sprite, Ghost)? And foreign names that describe the dog can also be unique and a good fit . We've had a lot of dogs with a range of names (Shadrach--it's a biblical name; Ike--after the President; Flip--a very agile dog who loved to do tricks; Fang--anything but, he was the runt of the litter and a complete lovebug; a pair of dogs called Nip and Tuck--Nip was an all white Malmute and Tuck was a small black terrier and they treated each other like brothers; Nacho--a small terrier with a big dog attitude--that's only a partial list). Some other names I've heard that I thought were unique for dogs: Willow, Dice, Tracer, Voodoo, and La. Unusual names are fine, just don't go for something that is a fad or trendy name at the time because depending on the breed, this dog could be with you for 18 years.

Torta. It is swedish for cake. Cuz it sounds like he had to much of it at the pound! Ahaha! Lolz but naw it's a really cute name for a girl or boy. Its pronounced: Tore [like tore the paper] ta, (tor*ta).
You can even roll the R like in spanish and it sounds very preaty,
for a boy also!
Good Luck!
