so exactly how long have you been crating him for? it sounds like he has what you call "seperation anxiety". my doberman did the SAME exact things your dog is doin!!! the vet told me my dog had seperation anxiety. when i would leave to go somewhere my dog would whine and bark, and i come home and theres poop on the floor, and he was potty trained!!! i was told to crate him, so i would put a blanket in there for comfort, well.. one day i came home, and this nice blanket was torn to peices!! try getting a "kong toy" stuff a treat in it or "kong stuff'n" and it will keep him occupied for a while. also try playing some soft music for him, to try and relax him, and to distract him from hearing u or your boyfriend. if nothing helps, then there are always meds to calm him down, which i would not recommend, i just dont like the idea, of "changing my dog", (i guess thats the best way i would put it).

also take the pup for plenty of walks, and give him lots of exercise. then put him in the crate and he should be tired out.

it may take some time to train him, if you need additional help, maybe contact a animal behaviorst (trainer), or take him to obediance classes. and just be patient, something like the seperation anxiety takes patience!

Crating him is the problem. Have you ever tried to let him sleep with you? Also, to train him to sleep you need to take some old clothing of your (that still has your smell on it -don't wash it) and give it to him. Do you have a pair of shoes with your smell on it? That you don't mind parting with? Stick that in the crate. Keep him locked up with that one smell (main owner of the dog) then after a month open the crate door keeping the personal item still with him (it's like a babv blankie) etc. Also, Observe him.

For Example- I take care of neighbor dog/pug and when his pinkie monster stuffed toy disappeared he started to act more aggressive. The owner just gave him more toys to play with but he wasn't as calm as when he had that toy. Had the owner gone out and rebought the same toy over and over (after it kept getting destoryed) the dog would be more calm - now I have discovered that this fuzzy black and brown squeaky toy sometimes does the trick esp. with the brown beefy smelling bones or pig ears (sometimes does the trick. TRy this approach. good luck. (ps don't do rawhides do beefy smelling dog bones)

He may need more attention and exercise. He may be feeling left out and lonely. Have you tried putting his crate in your room?
