My Border Collie is spayed and ABCA registered at this current time, but I will want her registered with the AKC so that we can participate in AKC sanctioned events, such as Agility, Obedience, Rally-O, Herding, etc...

Now the stud books are open on BC's, as far as I know, but someone suggested to me that because she is over 1 yr, AKC will not do a proper registration and I will need to ILP her instead. Recently, here in answers, I saw one of our regular posters make reference to a judge looking to throw out an ILP dog from a competition, as he thought it not to be purebred. BC's are typically seen with rough coats, but mine is semi-smooth. I would wonder if because she's not "the norm" that a judge might question her ILP status.

I would prefer to do a direct AKC registration if I can. Has anyone had any experience with this or know if there is actually a "cut off age" to register?

I am crate training my 10 week old puppy and he sleeps in his crate at night. I take him out right before bed. He wakes up at least once during the night to go potty and I let him out. The problem is he is crying and scratching at the crate door to get out. I know you are not supposed to let them out when they are crying because it will create a bad habit but I always assume he has to go potty which he does. When I put him back in he cries but I do not let him out. The only time he really gets let out is when he is crying and it's because he has to go potty. I feel like I am not able to teach him that crying is not the way out but that's kinda what I am doing. Help?

My dog Hershey, is a mini dachshund. He just went to the vet on Saturday 9-8-07. He had some back trouble. He is taking 2 different kinds of medication. The only way I can get him to take one of his medications is put it in a marshmallow. The question I am asking is, How can I get my dog to eat his dog food? I just changed his food the other day to Pedigree Healthy Maturity. He won't eat it. Know he did eat his food on Sunday afternoon, but he hasn't eaten since then. How can I get him to eat again?

A while back, our dogs chased an animal up from the woods. It was a little beagle puppy. This beagle puppy that had been starved and severely abused/neglected. We took him in, and fed him, etc. A while later, we noticed that our potatoes (we keep them in a cupboard in the kitchen that is low to the ground) were going missing! A few days later, we noticed that the beagle had actually been swiping the potatoes, and hiding them for later! No real teeth marks left in the potatoes, they were just hidden in places like dark corners, under couch cushions, etc. We figured maybe he just thought he should hide them cuz he was afraid of going hungry(as with his past owners). But then, I brought my puppy to my Dad's house, and he did the same thing as the beagle did! My puppy never came in contact with the beagle, so he couldn't have learned that from him. Anyone know why the dogs would do this? We feed them every day, so there's no reason why they would be so hungry.

Please list five REAL things that a dog and a baby have in common? Not it's cute, it eats, sleeps, it loves me, wears clothes and plays with toys stuff. I mean five real characteristics. Example: both are mamals etc. I'm just trying to figure out why people treat a dog like a human child. Thank you.

3 mo. old chi, vaccinated, 1.5 lbs. started with a cough like something stuck in throat. Suspected kennel cough, Vet couldn't confirm, cough seemed to get better. She had intermittent yellowish loose bowel movements at same time, Vet changed diet with added cooked rice, only to make it worse. Now puppy is drooling so bad when it sleeps, it looks like it's had a bath. Upper stomach under ribs growls every morning like someone starving, yet she doesn't even want to eat now. Vet gave her Diarsanyl yesterday - hasn't helped yet, and now when she does cough it sounds more wet; I suspect from all the drooling. I know everyone's going to say to get new Vet but there is no better Vet in area...believe me, I know. Any Vet's out there with any suggestions? This puppy needs HELP.

My dog's name is Holly, she is a year and a half and i got her for my 12th birthday last year and i never had a dog (of my own) but we had and still have the family dog but he is small. And Holly is really wild and i can't let her sleep in my room because she will eat everything, but i really want to train her.

I want to train her to always stay by me even without a leach, and not run away. I also want to train her to chew on my stuff and to not eat my rat.

I know i should have trained her last year but i was young and didn't know how, so can anyone please tell me how to and don't send me links. Oh and one more thing, if i teach her to do something by giving her a treat next time she will only do it if i have a treat... and i don't want that.

We just got a mostly white boxer, his back has a fawn kind of cape. We have heard we are not suppoed to breed them. We are planning to get a fawn female later to breed. He is AKC papered. And the vet didnt know. Does anyone have any sites or info that would help. If he isnt able to be bred we are going to keep him anyways. He's just tooo cute!

I have a female newfoundland that is a very picky eater. She seems to only eat enough to keep her from starving, but not enough to keep her weight up. Her activity level is normal and she seems to be a very happy dog. I just can't get her to eat or to gain weight that she really needs. Any ideas?
