A while back, our dogs chased an animal up from the woods. It was a little beagle puppy. This beagle puppy that had been starved and severely abused/neglected. We took him in, and fed him, etc. A while later, we noticed that our potatoes (we keep them in a cupboard in the kitchen that is low to the ground) were going missing! A few days later, we noticed that the beagle had actually been swiping the potatoes, and hiding them for later! No real teeth marks left in the potatoes, they were just hidden in places like dark corners, under couch cushions, etc. We figured maybe he just thought he should hide them cuz he was afraid of going hungry(as with his past owners). But then, I brought my puppy to my Dad's house, and he did the same thing as the beagle did! My puppy never came in contact with the beagle, so he couldn't have learned that from him. Anyone know why the dogs would do this? We feed them every day, so there's no reason why they would be so hungry.

I'm not sure why your pups would be doing this.. But just so you know, potatoes are REALLY bad for dogs... I know you said they haven't eaten them yet, but I would still be cautious.. I would put them away where the dogs cannot get to them. Oh and to the person who's dog hoards grapes.. Grapes are bad for dogs too! just be carful!!! Check out the link below!

I think they are bored. They need adequate excercise. If you have a hudge garden let them run the jiggles off. Dogs need excercise otherwise they are bored and then develop mis behaviors that human's do not like.
I would recommend walking them evry day twice a day.
We will start soon with our young Chi walking in the park. She needs to get that excercise. I take her out to back yard few times a day. She run's it off and my poodle gives her excercise. That's what your dogs needs. Most dogs digg and hide stuff. We had an older Lab dog , she loved howling everything from the trash can and buddle it into the back yard. It's frustration of not getting enough time out side.

First of all dont let them eat potatoe skins. I just read somewhere that potatoe skins are on the top 10 lists of what not to feed your dogs. My dog does that with socks and his treats. they are hoarders and that is just what they do.

Huh, potatoes.......that's a new one. I have seen mine steal them and play with them. I would guess they are bored. If theya ren't eating them. Mine will hoard grapes or apple slices. they don't eat either of them. They play with them. i find them when they are moldy and gross. Maybe find some toys for them to play with.
