this is for byb and rep. breeders.
(given that rep breeders already have homes for their litters!)

What happens to unwanted puppies if there ever are any?
Do you keep them and get them fixed? or breed them.

(i know this seems like a dumb question for rep. breeders)

also what do you do once your dog is too old to breed and when do you usually stop breeding?

Just curious.

(I want to see how much the answers vary!!)

He snaps his jaws and bears his teeth when he trys to bite or nip at me in attempt to play. Is it possible that he has a lot of pent up energy and he needs more time to play outside, when will he stop fussing at me? He looks aggressive, when he trys to bite, but he's only 12 wks old. How to teach him not to bite, plx help. He's very strong and I can't hold his muzzle when he does. He pulls my arms away with his paws~!! & I don't feel it's okay to smack his muzzle ~ am I misunderstood?

For a while I would roll him down to the floor and growl into his ear deeply "nooooo." every time he did it and it seemed to help. Please give any good advice. He's an American Staffordshire Terrier. Thanks~!

Are dogs allergic to walnuts? I know that walnut will kill horses because they are all allergic to them, but I was curious if it was the same way with dogs?? Thanks!

I'll preface this by saying I'm broke right now and a trip to the vet is not allowable - I wish it were, but things are just so tight right now...
I have a 12.5-year-old Springer mix. He has always been extremely energetic, and now that he's older, he still runs around and jumps, etc., occasionally (like if you say "OUTSIDE?!" enough times). Last night he wouldn't jump up to sleep in my bed, which he does sometimes, so I didn't think about it. But this morning he was incredibly lethargic, keeping his head bowed down and sitting with his back paws very close to each other. It's really unsettling because the only other time he's acted like this was when my mom accidently overdosed him on antihistamines; he hasn't had anything but his regular (topical) skin meds in a long time.
Any advice, or similar experiences you could share? Thanks so much.

There is a young man lives near me and he has a 5 month old English Bull Terrier. It's never on a lead but he won't let anyone pet it. Not only that but when it approached my dog as all puppies do, he snatched it up and smacked it across the nose.
When I asked him why his reply really shocked me. "I don't want it being friendly with other dogs".
The dog looks well cared for and is friendly, (or would be given the chance) but I hate to think how dangerous it will be in a few months time.
Friends have tried telling him he's doing wrong by the dog but he doesn't care! I tried and got a load of personal abuse thrown at me!

My parents are in TN and when I went to visit I noticed the dog they keep outside is covered in fleas. He has very little hair left and the fleas are VERY visable and gourged. He seems to be getting thin as well because of it... anemic? They have very little money. Are there any home remedies that can be used? They give him weekly flea baths but it does not help, since he is outside.

I am just wondering, when was the last time you were at an animal shelter? I was there today, dropping off a rescue at their clinic to have fixed. (I have to pick her up in 2 hours.)

When I was there, County Animal Control brought them in 3 stray dogs! They looked so scared and sad! It broke my heart!

Have you ever walked around and saw their animals? Do you realize how hard those folks work to insure the animals are socialized and healthy?

Anyone want to tell me your experiences or feeling?

Ok, some one brought a puppy to work today that was just treated for scabbies yesterday. I was petting it before I knew it had them. Should I be worried about taking them home to my puppies. I washed my hands really good. But is it easily transmitted, like on your clothes and things like that?

I think most of these people are either too stupid or too young to be pet owners. If it is the latter, then where are the parents?

I'm not talking about strays or nuisance animals. What is the biggest reason people leave their pets?

i've been trying to train her into eating specially formulated dog food but she just refuses to touch them. sometimes i include it to her canned dog food and she just plainly refuses it. its really frustrating because there are times she just wouldn't eat for up to 2 days unless I give her favorite food - which is chicken. i want to stop giving her chicken because she's overweight, 16lbs for an 8inch tall dog. its just so hard for me to do it because she would give me this soulful, sad look! im a pushover :(

any suggestions?

The problem is I cant get them to get along its always crazy in my house! The male chi hates the lab and my female ignores her until she gets to close and then she raises hell with him. The lab (Spirit) just wants to play and she is to big and I have to stay right on her so she doesnt try to play with them because she doesnt meant to but she could hurt them. I feel bad because most of the time spirit is in her kennel and its not fair to her. Any idea's on how I can get them all to get along together would be very helpful.

I have a 8 month old boxer puppy, he is healthy, up on shots, worming, not running a temp, eating well.
I feed him Nature's Recipe Puppy made with Lamb & Rice. made with no beef , corn, wheat. no by-products. he has been on this for about 3 months.
My problem is that he has the squishy runs... it starts out hard and fine but then omg... he is house broke so thats not the problem.
I don't think he is absorbing what he needs with this food.
Shoud I take him back on to Purina's Puppy Chow (what he was on before) that has more fillers and junk? Is healthy (human thoughts, not what dogs really need) better or 90% of dogs do just fine on the good ole' stuff like Pedigree and Purina for years
Are the marketing ploys toward our thoughts and not just want a dog really needs.
I just want his system to calm down. The vet says he is fine, it just might be a food allergy.. might be the lamb???
Just need some thoughts
Thanks

My almost 2 yr old Jack Russel/Papillion mix, has been pooping blood. This started about 3 weeks ago. She was also throwing up constantly, not eating, etc, so we took her to the vet immediately. They said she was a little dehydrated, and did tests, and ruled out parvo, something she swallowed, and did blood work on her, everything looked fine they said to change her diet to a bland meal. Well, it took a while for her pool to turn solid, and for her to get back to normal, she did. She is now done with her meds, and last night would not eat again, this mornign I saw some blood in her stool again, we do plan to take her to a vet, but what could possibly be wrong. I do not want to take her to have them tell me that she is fine again.
