My three dogs, ranging in ages from 5 to 9, absolutely love their cat food and they have it every day, all day if they want! Its never done them any harm because although it lacks the proper nutrients that are in tinned dog food, they have whatever i eat, roast beef with all the trimmings, fish, stews and i'm still here! They have their own dog biscuit treats throughout the day as well as cat biscuits ( the cats proper pissed off ha ha ) and they have a raw carrot each and broccoli, raw of course. It honestly wont do him any harm at all, in fact you'll probably find that his tastes will change and he'll want the dog food later on. Stop worrying, enjoy his baby months and let him enjoy them too! If its really bothering you, you can get Bob Martin Conditioning Tablets from your pet shop or supermarket.

Sounds like your pup will eat just about anything!! Are we talking canned cat food?

If you care enough to make up special food for your pup, I think veggies & potatoes are good. The only thing is no corn because doggies don't digest that well. Rice is a much better filler.

Watch your pup after you feed him and see how he acts--is he lethargic (too many carbs), does he seem uncomfortable (something's not digesting), etc.

Make sure the meat you use is not overly fatty--watch dog's weight and see if he seems trim and energetic, then you're doing well with his food.

As to cat food--I don't know. I know my dog likes it, but we keep it out of his reach so the kitty gets a bite now and then.

You do NOT feed cat food to a dog. Cats and dogs need different nutrients.Don't feed your dog cat food. If you must, separate the cat food and the dog food so that you're sure they don't get mixed. If your dog has been eating cat food for a while, feed it cat food but mix a little bit of dog food in with it so your dog doesn't get diarrhea. Each week, mix in more dog food and less cat food.

Just as we cannot live successfully on a gorilla's diet because we are built differently, dogs and cats have different nutritional needs. If your dog enjoys cat food that is perfectly normal, but not necessarily good for him! Do you enjoy a nice juicy burger loaded with cholesterol? My point.
A friend of mine recently took her maltese poodle to the vet because it seemed as if it had a skin irritation, turns out the dog was having a bad reaction to the cat food it was enjoying. You need to remember that giving your pet everything it likes or wants is not always doing your pet a favour!

Eating cat food once in a while isn't bad, but feeding it as a main meal can have some long-term affects on his health. Dogs have different nutritional requirements then cats.

Don't give him cat food, because the nutrition is wrong and it has too much protein. Cats really are carnivores, but dogs are more scavengers/omnivores.

Cooked potatoes won't hurt him, but provide little value for him. Other veggies are good... not onions or garlic .. which are toxic.

It is much more complex than it appears... so I use dry food, because it is nutritionally complete and balanced for dogs... And my dogs tend to live a long time and be very active....

Mashed potato is fine but cat food is not. Too high in fat for a dog.
