free pets are NEVER free, they often require vaccinations, deworming, training etc.
a dog is ALOT different than a cat.
its your parents house so ultimately any pet is THEIR RESPONSIBILY, obviously they are ok with a cat but dont want a dog. It is unfair of you to ask them for a dog if they dont want one.
What will happen to a dog when you move out or go to College? VERY hard to find rental property that allows pets, and few allow dogs. Will your parents be forced to put YOUR dog down??

dogs are costly why are you asking them to get YOU a dog - but then are expecting them to pay for FOOD and VET CARE?

grow up - save your money - when you move out buy a home, then get your own dog.

Sweetheart,
I don't know how old you are and whether or not you can be responsible for a dog. And dogs cost a lot of money in vet expenses, even if you just get them their shots. And what about food?

It seems to me that if your sister got a cat, you deserve to have an animal of your own, too. Ask your parents, and if they say no, ask them if there's a way you can earn a puppy--like doing chores, or reading books on dog care, promising to do the poop duty and walk the dog every day.

I hope you get a dog. I had one when I was a child, and I absolutely adored her. My husband, however, is a cat person, and doesn't like dogs running around in his house. So we have a 6 yo orange cat named Shinkey (silly for stinky) Gato (cat in spanish).

Best wishes

Do you know why they said no to you in the first place? I'm sure they have their reasons. There are big differences in cats and dogs (I'm a dog lover personally). You can always ask again providing they didn't say "don't ask me again". I always tell my kids to ask me things as the worst that can happen is I say no to them. Are you ready to be a pet owner? It is almost like having a child. It is a HUGE responsibility. Good luck!

dogs can be expensive to own. if you dont have the money to bring it to the vet and cover emergancies then i suggest you dont get one yet.

just to give you an idea of expenses: worming, shots (there are quite a few for a puppy), getting it fixed, food, toys, trainning... and thats just the norm

my dogs have all had issues that have cost a great deal of money. my one dog had her eye popped out at about 10weeks old. emergancy visit. double knee surgery ($1800 a knee). vestibular syndrom in 2 of my dogs (emergancy visits for both). one dog had degenerative mylopithy and that was pretty pricey to try to keep her from getting worse. my newest puppy has been quite the price tag. first she came with parasites (but thats pretty common from the pound). then pink eye. then she got kennel cough (she was vacinated too). then mites on her nose that have taken 3 months to clear up. we just found out (well, i knew it, the vet just finally said it) that she has immune deficancy and will have to be on meds for that for god knows how long (probably life). she ripped out her dew claw (emergancy vet).

things go wrong that you just cant expect. so if you cant afford it, then dont get one. you dont want your dog to suffer for no reason if something DOES happen.

If you will be sure to take care of the dog then yes ask to have one. Ask at least once or twice per week until either you grow up and leave or they let you have a dog. Remember you do have to take care of the dog.

There's much more to owning a puppy than getting it. They need all sorts of expensive stuff like, food, vets, meds and sometime grooming. If money is tight the pup may not be such a good idea? Sorry.

Pets are not free. They require good, quality pet food, vet care (which can be very expensive), spay/neuter, toys, beds, leashes, collars, training, etc. etc.
