i've been trying to train her into eating specially formulated dog food but she just refuses to touch them. sometimes i include it to her canned dog food and she just plainly refuses it. its really frustrating because there are times she just wouldn't eat for up to 2 days unless I give her favorite food - which is chicken. i want to stop giving her chicken because she's overweight, 16lbs for an 8inch tall dog. its just so hard for me to do it because she would give me this soulful, sad look! im a pushover :(

any suggestions?

HEY!! That would be the pom in her....My pom is a fussy little bugger too. I free all kinds of premium healthy dog foods and treats and bring out little bits at a time. He goes through " eating jags" where maybe he`ll eat Royal Canin, for three months and then maybe he`ll eat Medical for three weeks. I know it can get expensive but they only eat a little bit anyhow. But I ALWAYS put the food in his bowl and wait for him to eat it, ( I give him ten minutes) if he doesn`t eat it by then I take the bowl away and try again..

You might also want some bloodwork done on her. She "may" have thyroid issues, which can cause this kind of weight gain. A healthy, busy dog is hungry and will eat what is given, not be so choosy. And her canned stuff? Would you want tree bark added to your ice cream cone? I think not. It is best to work with your vet on this one in case there are underlying health issues and to monitor her during the process. She is very fat and this is a serious problem.

Yes, stop being a push over. Maybe if you put it in it's proper perspective: If I don't hold out and insist that the dog eat the healthy food, she will die at a much younger age and probably have many health problems before she dies. If I get weight off of her and keep her in 'good' weight, active and healthy, she will stay 'young' longer and be with me longer. She will also have a happier life!

Do some research on healthy dog food if you already haven't done so. Next, your dog needs house trained all over again. I suggest the book "Housetraining for Dummies". (no offense lol). It's a very informative and helpful book.

Boy, shes got you trained. Why eat that when you know if you hold out you'll get something better? Be strong and stay firm. No dog will starve itself.

Chicken is not bad for her maybe your giving her to much? lol!
there are many web site that give info on holistic diets. You will be able to find recipes that have chicken in it but low in calories and be able to find a good diet for her so she gets what she needs. I would just google holistic diets.

Quit being a pushover.. If your dog is fat, then you are putting her life at risk.. Being a pushover, can kill your dog..
