A shot of Capstar from the vet will kill them all within minutes for the majority and twenty four hours for stragglers.
The groomer can dip him in a treatment that will get rid of most. Frontline takes time. It will render the flea eggs sterile, unable to hatch, thus control future generations, provided the fleas bite the dog. A pest control can rid your environment of fleas that will hang out in carpets, furniture, grass and your socks.
Hair cutting is usually not required.

They would only cut the hair if he was there for a haircut. If you had brought the dog in for just a bath and he was way too matted, they would most likely turn the dog down because you can't brush out matts when they get too much.
They can give him a flea bath or flea dip.
If you just put frontline on the dog, you have to wait so many days before bathing again so you don't wash it off.
You also need to keep the yard and house taken care of as well. Fleas live in grass, carpet, furniture, etc. You have to use sprays or powders to prevent them from living there. Fleas only go on the dog to eat, they live in those areas mentioned.
If you take him to the groomers, treat the house/yard before you get him back.

What kind of dog? Age? Is his hair badly matted? The groomer shouldn't have to cut his hair unless he is.
Once he's had the frontline, you need to bomb the house too to kill any that are in the carpets, etc. Once they're gone, it shouldn't be a big problem to control if you keep on top of it.
The groomer can't give your dog a prescription medication like Frontline (unless you bring it along and ask her to). But there are "dips" they can use if needed. Check with your vet first. Not sure if you should dip a dog who's already got Frontline in his system.

I've also tried frontline and found it none too clever in getting rid of these buggers! Advantage is the best one, acts very quickly and is better, i believe, for the dog. Check with your vet first though in case you can't use the two in sequence. Your dog groomer shouldn't have any fleas on the premises and if they have ( little sods get everywhere! ) ask them to get a tin of StayKill from the RSPCA or pet shop, costs about £12.00 but is excellent in getting rid of the blighters. It's an idea to get some yourself as it sounds as though your dog is being re-infected despite being treated with everything else. Cutting your dogs hair will not get rid of his fleas, you've got to tackle the little gits head on!

They can cut the hair if necessary, and give him a flea bath and spray.
You need to do the house and car while the dog is at the groomer's.

You can do this yourself. Get some Frontline or Advantage and treat the dog monthly. Fleas will be gone. Frontline and Advantage work within 24 hours, contrary to what another poster said. It also kills the adult fleas.

They can cut the hair and give it a flea bath and then you should get some flea drops and use them once a month to prevent. You can also buy a flea spray that you can spray directly on the dog. Spray you r carpet and furniture with lysol or another disinfecting spray and put a flea collar in your vacuum cleaner bag, stretch it to activate it first.

I taken care of her some days till now vacationing to pass to relatives. The relatives member lives in an condominium and quite a few citizens have dogs. Even being taken care of with Advantix, my dogs have been given fleas! She has a flea hypersensitivity, so preventative is intense. The flea chew(s) she have been given, grew to become right into a staph an infection. i'm interested in what works additionally. i will shop making use of Advantix at this factor, yet am prepared to swap if this keeps to fail as nicely. I even have in no way had a flea difficulty on a dogs taken care of with Advantix till this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days the two. those remedies are high priced and that i do assume them to artwork--plus i do in contrast to putting insecticides on my dogs. sturdy good fortune.

i do not think a dog groomer can do anymore than you can do yourself to get rid of fleas you need to treat your envirment with the correct flea spray.
and treat yout dog with the frontline or frontline combi .the flea season is at its height this time of year .it would not be necessry to cut your dogs hair short not unless you want .
