Ok, some one brought a puppy to work today that was just treated for scabbies yesterday. I was petting it before I knew it had them. Should I be worried about taking them home to my puppies. I washed my hands really good. But is it easily transmitted, like on your clothes and things like that?

Well also, how long does the treatment for the dog take to work?

People have scabies, dogs have mange. Scabies are lice that live on a human host, mange is the dog equivalent. While you can get the mange lice on you they will only live on you for 48 hours but you could carry them home to your pups. Take a hot shower, wash the clothes you were wearing in hot water then into the dryer, put your shoes out in the garage for a couple of weeks, take off your rings and scrub them with a nail brush and your nails. All this is probably overkill because the treatment for both scabies and mange will usually kill the lice, but you'll feel better if you take precautions. Go into work tomorrow and tell you coworker what an inconsiderate jerk he/she is. Good luck.

My mom has been struggling with scabies on her dogs. I researched and I can not find anything too specific on how they live on dogs, or where dogs can get them. I can tell you that it does get on your animals and you can feel the bites almost instantly when you are around the animal. Change clothes and wash the best you can at work before going home. Generally scabies takes person to person contact, but this must be a really bad year for them.

They are very easily transmitted and as a former victim,
i can tell you they are painfull and you take a pesticide type drug to cure you. Watch for random red welts that pop up , and itch and burn like hell. Not Pleasant.

Yes, it's quite contagious, to people as well- if that dog was contagious depends on how long it's been on treatment. Watch for signs (itchy rashes) on yourself or your dogs.
