I've always wanted a dog in my family. But I don't know too much about training them, how many times to feed them, what to feed them the first two-three months, when to start meat, what meats, what foods to avoid, potty training, etc. Where on the internet can I find all this info?
I want to be a great mum for it, but I need a lot of help. It's my first dog.
Only genuine advice please.

Thanks.

My dog has recently started biting the top of his tail and now there's no hair there where he has bitten it. We tried cutting a hole in a bucket lid and putting it over his neck so he can't reach his tale but that doesn't work. We also tried cutting a hole in a bucket and using that but it still won't work copz he can still reach his tail. What canw e do to stop him biting his tail so it can heal?

I just walked in the door and discovered that he had gotten into a lot of Christmas candy - a big bag of peanut M&M's, and two chocolate bars. I know chocolate is bad for dogs... can someone who knows what they are talking about give me some advice... please!!

I take my dogs out and the older one goes. Then my 6 month old dog will sniff the pee and go for about 1 second and stop. I keep him out and he won't sniff around or anything, he just stands there. Then I get inside and right away he will pee or poop. He knows to go outside, whiy won't he do all of it there? Why would he stop and then go again inside?

I moved into a new apartmet two months ago. The neighbors have a problem with my dogs. They are always on their leashes, they don't bark that much, they are good dogs. The neighbors are freeking out because the dogs poop on the side of the house. I thought that was a good place because people then won't step in it. I have watched their dogs poop over their too. I walk around the whole yard about twice a week picking up all the poop (even the stuff from their dogs) In the place where I live there are my two dogs and two other dogs. the neighbors have at least two dogs that live over there. They have been calling the town on us and complaning. Today my landlord thretned to evict us. I am going to start picking up my dogs poo and only thier poo as soon as it happens. I thought I was being nice by picking up the whole yard but no one seems to care. I also thought that twice a week would be sufficent. do you thing we can be evicted for this. do you think the neighbors are messing with us...

I have a dapple dachshund (i know you're thinking, "what does that have to do with anything??") well, hold on.

i have seen pictures among pictures of endless dachshunds in books, calendars, magazines, blogs, you name it and i can't help but notice ONE thing:

dappies look...thin.

i've come to notice that MY dappie looks unusually thinner than other doxies and i'm beginning to worry.
now, before you claim this as rubbish, i'd like you to take a look at dachshund pictures and see for yourself (grey, black, brown, spots) then compare solids to dapples.

is this normal? is she too thin? or is there really a weight difference between solid and dappled weiners?

another thing, if you're going to be rude and/or immature about this situation, don't respond. save your thoughts for someone else.

thank you!

I got my puppy before Thanksgiving as soon as I got her I took her to the vet for a health check. They told me she has Giardia. We treated her with Metronidazole for a week. After that she still had it so we treated for 14 days, tested again and still had it. So now we put her on Panacur twice daily for 14 days, but on the 4th day she has extremely bad diarrhea so I stoped the Panacur and she still has really bad diarrhea. When she was first diagnosed her stool was pretty normal. Not until the Panacur did she have diarrhea. My vet has said they have never seen this before. The pup weighs less then 3 pounds why is the giardia so difficult to get rid of and now why does she seem to have diarreha. I also did some research and I coulnt find any side effects from Panacur. Has anyone heard of this before or is there something else wrong with her. Please help this has gone on for months now and its very difficult to deal with.

I have a 3.5 yo male akita. he was outside for about 5 hours today. There is snow on the ground, but there are clear areas for my dogs to lay in, walk around ,etc. I noticed this evenin that his two front paws appear slightly swollen. He does not limp, does not show any pain or discomfort. Should I take him to the vet immediatley, or should I take a wait and see approach?

It started as soon as we stopped giving him can food. Our older dog passed, so we no longer saw the need for it. I bought a dog food to help dry skin, but the signs are still here. He is going crazy rolling on the floor on his black looking cute. Help please!
