They will be in quite a bit of pain the first few days, just be sure to ask for a pain medication for your puppy for at least 5 days. The tape tends to annoy the heck out of the puppies, but ask your vet to show you how to tape them so if your pup gets the tape off on a weekend you will not have to call the vet to have the ears re-taped.
Also, tell the vet that you want the ears to match the dog. If you dog has a very long head for the breed, you will want a longer crop done, or else the ears will look like a pit bull crop, which doesn't look good on a Dobie.
Just FYI: cropping is different then taping the ears (like sometimes done on German Shepherds, French Bulldogs, and Bull Terriers). Taping is just applying tape to the natural ears to help get them to stand, cropping is actually cutting the ear and then taping to get them to stand.

the dog should not have any painafter this is done . to be safe take the dog back to the vet to have tape removed so it can be check out to make sure everything is healing correctly. Hopefully you will have a script for antiinflammitory you dont want an infection to set in.

Well cropping ears doesn't really hurt the dog. I tape my German Shepherds ears....I am not sure if their is even a difference between the two. But who ever is doing it for should know about the pain and can help you.....research it on the internet

I think that ear cropping is an unnecessary cosmetic procedure! Kind of like the foot binding the chinese used to do to their daughters!!! You wouldn't do that to a human being, WHY would you do that to you beloved pet!!! It looks normal because sick people, with no respect for their animals we responsible for the creation of the breed...kind of like why poor pit bulls can be vicious...because of human intervention!!! I could NEVER cut a piece of my dog off so he'll LOOK normal...WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU THINKING.....!? In this world of vegans, human rights, and where american pets each better than 75% of the world's population you're seriously telling all of us out here in cyber space that you're going to cut your dogs ears off!

Why would you want to mutilate your dog's ears? I think it is cruel to do unnecessary surgery on your pets. Why put them through all the pain of healing from having their ears chopped off, and take the risk of them getting an infection? I chose my pets to be my companions and friends, not because of how they looked, but because they have wonderful personalities and were very loving and sweet.

Leave the poor dog alone. I have a pitbull and I love his big floppy ears. You must be pretty ugly to try and compensate by making your dog look the way someone else told you to.

Best way to stop the pain is to not do it. It is wrong and the akc and other groups should not require it.

EAR CROPPING IS COMPLETELY INHUMANE...it is very, very painful for dogs. There is NO REASON to torture an animal like that...

Please do not do it UNLESS and only if she is a championed show dog.
It is not a necessary procedure for every dog just because other dogs have it done.
