I know there's no specific "Best" breed of large dogs, as all have their pro's and con's.. But I'm looking for a good working-type large breed dog. Austrailian Cattle Dogs are too small for me - I was thinking about a 'Red' Golden Retriever, or possibly a Weimarainer, but I'm not sure. Any other breeds you guys would like to throw at me, and maybe why I should go with them? - By the way, Mastiff's are not for me. :) Too lazy. Thanks!

how long is a dog on heat?
How many days will she bleed?
Is it true that it is better to spay her before she goes into heat?
And is it true that they become more mature and calm after their first cycle, or I don't how how to call it
Thanks ;)

Hes 9 and a half years old and is drinking plenty of water. For a few days now its been sometimes ok and then runny again. His diet hasn't changed, but as a chef he gets scraps of meat that have been left over from work now and again. He currently eats Bakers Complete. Just lately I've been mixing in a raw egg, in the hope of binding him.He is on tablets to keep skin inflammation down and hes just started a course of tablets for a mild form of epilepsy, could this be it?
He loves bananas too, we stick the tablets in these, but thought that might be it and now stick them in dry bread. I want to sort it out cos its not nice for him, or me as I have to try and pick it up.

My daughter arrived home yesterday with a 6 week old puppy. It is a crossbreed (staff, Rotweiler, Pitt bull). I have no idea what to feed it.

I live in a very rural area where Coral snakes Rattle Snakes and Moccasins are VERY common. A proper vet is nearly an hour away, and those of you who have delt with snake bites before know that time is precious. I have several Jack Russle Terriers and Several Australian Shepherds, and they are always at risk to a snake bite.
It seems that the little breeds of dogs don't have fighting chance if they are bitten by a snake. We've had several dogs die due to snake bites. Last year one of our Aussie Females was bitten on the face by a rattle snake and thankfully she made it.
I'm really desperate for info on treating snake bites. I want to know if there is an way we can treat the bite before we can the pet to the vet.
Snakes are a big problem around my home. We've lost cattle to snakes too. My grand father was bitten on the foot by a copper head, because the snake was in his shoe.
Any info is greatly appreciated.

I never got my Dalmation to learn to fetch. Of course, I was in fourth grade when we got him, but that's besides the point.

When he was younger, I could get him to occasionally chase something I threw, but then it was his, and he would not actually return it to me to throw again. = \

After MUCH consideration I have decided I want a GSD. I have decided, also, that I'd like the dog to be all black, since the breed comes in that variation.

I have heard rumors that this is a rarer color. I don't really care about that, I just like the way it looks as compared to the regular black and tan. Will I have to pay more for one?

I live in the Pennsylvania area, I'm willing to travel. I've looked at petfinder.com and one there has interested me and I've E-mailed the foundation, but I am still browzing. Anyone know any GOOD, REPUTABLE breeders? I am -NOT- against taking a mix if it shares the phenotypical and mental/psychological stature of a GSD.

Any other information would also be appreciated. = )
