Dogs - November 2006

Roxy is almost a 6 months old staffie x lab, very obedient and smart. We took her in at only 8 weeks old but we have been living in a small one bedroom flat with no garden so we had to do quiete a few sacrifices. Now we are finally moving out to a bigger place with a garden and i know we are gonna have a few problems with her crying and barking while she's out there and we are at work. What can we do to avoid this? Please advise, i'm a bit worried but i really want the best for her and this garden is really for her only. Thanks heaps

I have a japanese Akita dog got him from a recue centre aged1 (now 3.5) whenever he has to do a number 2 (poo) he circles several times in the same spot sum time up to 50-60 turns quite fast any one know why he does this

She is not yet fixed, has has all her shots, and is followed up on everything. Sometimes she rubbs the carpet, sometimes she scratches with her paw, I don't know what it could be. Can dogs get allergies from people?

This weekend I will be pet sitting a friend’s pit-bull/lab puppy for 2 months until he gets his new house in January..…his current apartment will not allow any animals…Here’s the thing I have no clue as to what to expect , what to do or how this little girl is going to interact with my cats…….I used to have a dog but that was back in the day when I was like 12 and she was already grown and she was always outside….. The puppy’s owner is going to provide potty pads , food toys, a create, and a soft little bed and wanted to give me money for the time she will be with me but I told him he didn’t have to…but If he felt a need to give a donation to a shelter instead…….I need to know how …..to make sure she goes on her potty pads, how to correct her , if I should leave her food out ….it sound like common since …..but I never had a puppy and I am a cat person and cats pretty much take care of themselves…

i have a rottie his 4 years old this month Nov , i trained him well
everyone says how good he is but he has always growled at me if he gets
told off, he hates doing things bad and has to please . when i take his
lead of in the park he growls i just tell him bad dog and ignore him
. I talt him to give his paw he can do one paw then the next now he
get paronode and acts like his getting told of he has never snapped or
tryed to bite anyone. i told him off today and now he just follows me
everywhere till i give him attention , i don't no what I'm doing
wrong or if i should keep him i love him so much i hope i can sort this
out his a gentleman when his not a grump

i mean not really, but when my dad calls him(or my mom, he does the samething with me and my brother) he starts wagging his tail like crazy and comes right away, when i call him he just looks at me (when he is calm) and when he is hyper he just runs away.oh and yea sometimes i do "bug him, mess around with him" and well u know like when he is sleeping ill go and pick him up and blow in his ears(he hates that) n e ways please answer my question.

I live in an aptartment that has neighbors on each side of me and above me. I rescued this wonderful dog from a shelter recently and have had no problems whatsoever until now. He is a great dog but there are times when I have to leave without him. I left today for 4 hours and left a recorder on while I was gone to see what would happen. When I got home he had been crying, howling and barking for about 2 1/2 hours on the tape. I am so worried if this continues that neighbors will complain and we will either have to move or get rid of him (which completely breaks my heart!) PLEASE help if you have any advice. I am at a loss.

Also, I left the TV on and I dont know if that made any difference.

I just caught my dog playing with a black widow, its legs were still moving, i got it away and squashed it but I don't know it he got bit by it. He seems to be acting fine, but I don't know if he was bit. any ideas what to do?

I have a 3 week old puppy. She doesnt want to drink out of the bottle so i give her milk in a small saucer. Sometimes after eating she will throw up some milk. I took her to the vet and he told me that it is normal. He said to start giving her some solid food. But i talked to a friend who has had puppies before and she said it is too early to take the milk away. I dont know what to do. I was thinking about giving her milk once a day and the rest just feeding her puppy food. What do you think???

I have a 14 year old dog and he was just diagnosed with cancer in one of his legs. He has been my only companion for such time and I cant face the fact that he is going to let me.. Treatment is extremely expensive and I want to know if there is an association, organization or institution in Boston or the East Coast that can support me and give some kind of financial help in order to give him the treatment he needs.
