I suggest you take any science classes your school offers: biology, physiology, anatomy, etc. You should probably start doing some volunteer work at a local pet clinic where you can get some hands-on experience and really get a feel for the job.

In high school, focus on taking classes in the sciences, particularily the biological sciences. In college, there will be guidelines of what classes you will need to take, and these will include biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, physiology/anatomy, etc. When you are pre-vet, you need to check the requirements of the vet school you plan on attending. Find out if you need to take GREs or the VMCATs (standardized tests).

Keep in mind that most vet schools give preference to accepting state residents where the school is located. It is also highly academically competetive to get into vet school. You will need excellent grades. Some people say that it's harder to get into vet school than it is to get into medical school.

In the meantime, I suggest you do some volunteer work with a veterinarian, depending on how old you are. If you are in high school, I am sure many veterinarians would gladly let you volunteer and observe at the clinic. Ask a lot of questions and experience what it is to be a vet. This may help you determine if you are too squeamish to enter into this profession.

Good luck!

Volunteer at farms, vet clinics and animal shelters. Get as much hands-on experience with animals as possible. You will need to study science--especially biology and chemistry, and having a base in psychology will help you deal with behavioural problems in animals and their neurotic owners. Proper spelling will also look good on the application form.

this would variety in line with the place you reside and are available to a determination to paintings. My sister discovered it very confusing to get right into a Vet Tech application around our area because it somewhat is extremely aggressive. Your ultimate wager would be to discover a school which you have an interest in attending and consult with somebody there.

Volunteer at your local animal shelter. They'll love the help. I've worked for one, and any and all free help was greatly appreciated.
