Sweetie you have a male rottie; they're very sweet but very bullheaded. Like all dogs they are pack oriented and they need to know their place in the pack. Rotties are more pack oriented than other breeds. Be firm with him and make sure he knows you're ALPHA or top dog. If you are in any way nervous around him or afraid of him he can litterally smell that fear on your breath because of a hormone. Try chewing gum while training him to cover this smell.
Also, as long as he has his um...jewels...he is going to keep trying to be Alpha. Unless you plan on studding him out I would recommend getting him neutered soon.

do you reward him for good behaviour too if not your dog has nothing to compare and will want to be praised so will do the good thing more ofter for attention also the bad behaviour could be lack of attention. also when you punish don't make it too long if you punish the dog for a half an hour it wont know what the hell its done. keep it short and sweet and make sure you use a loud noise or tap his nose when he does something bad. BUT ALSO MAKE SURE YOU USE THE SAME TECNQUICK(sorry about spelling). is you dont the dog will get confused

Don't growl at me I am top dog in this pack.

Maybe he is just talking back at you. Dog understand more then what we give them credit for.

your dog shouldnt be growling at you no matter how well behaved he is when pleasing. he sounds a little confused in himself. hes being dominant towards you. when you say you dont no whether you should keep him or not it sounds as though you are weary of him. dogs no when your a scared of them. best thing to do is speak to a behaviourist to help deal with your problem.

I reckon he doesn't like being told off, or perhaps he questions your authority. As long as he doesn't try to eat anyone I don't think you should have him put down.

Talk with a professional trainer (not a pet store trainer!). You need to remain "top dog" of your pack (you and him), so don't back down!

I would say that rotties are one of the hardest dogs to tame.........

They have a very strong hunting instinct..........A member of my family breeds dogs and after an awful incident where two rottie's she owned killed two other dogs by working together to hunt them, she will not touch them now.................

Not nice advice but I hope it helps xx
