Roxy is almost a 6 months old staffie x lab, very obedient and smart. We took her in at only 8 weeks old but we have been living in a small one bedroom flat with no garden so we had to do quiete a few sacrifices. Now we are finally moving out to a bigger place with a garden and i know we are gonna have a few problems with her crying and barking while she's out there and we are at work. What can we do to avoid this? Please advise, i'm a bit worried but i really want the best for her and this garden is really for her only. Thanks heaps

First off, don't lock her out in the garden...1) because she's going to have her feelings hurt (what if someone locked you out) and 2) because she's going to ruin the garden.
Some options are:

she'll get used to it if you wait a little more, if she doesn't in 3 months, here are some options:
-hire a babysitter
-don't go to work
-get another dog to keep her company

i think the problem is that the dog is too lonely. solve that, and she'll stop crying.

You might want to get a Kennel Cab for her and leave her in that inside the house until she is secure enough and old enough to leave in a yard. Then when you do leave her in the yard, with plenty of fresh water and a good dog house if it is not too hot or cold OR a pet door where she can get inside and outside as needed is best. You sound like a good pet owner that spends a lot of time thinking about their pet and so I am sure she will get plenty of attention daily!

For my new puppy's to help them adapt I would take a piece of mine and my husbands and the kids clothing. Something you don't wear anymore, and put out where they primarly are going to be staying. They smell your scent in the clothes and feel your with them. Also put a small radio by a window or outside with them with some talking and music, this seems to comfort them.
Good luck...

i have a small lap dog that hates, absolutely HATES, being left on his own. he cries and whines and grumbles and complains, but after a few minutes he calms down and goes to sleep, mainly because nobody calls his name, so he doesn't hear me or fusses over him when he commands attention. i know this sounds mean but you might want to leave the puppy alone. when you come home after work, mess around the house, cleaning it up and cooking dinner. call out the window at him occasionally, so he knows you are home, then you can and go feed him, or pet him. yes, it sounds cruel and unusual, but that's what i did to Boo and now he never whines when he is left alone.

Try giving her more attention or keeping her in another area. Also if you catch her barking make a sharp sound and say no.
Good luck.
