I have a thirteen year old daughter that really wanted a golden labrador retriever for a long time, so i decided to get her a DOG. I read somewhere thet labs usually die young and are prone to many illnesses, so i don't know if i should get her a lab or another breed of dog. Do you know any good breeds?

...and she hasnt been outside and no dogs have been lurkin around our house, and we live in TN and its gettin really cold so i dont think any dog owners would leave their pets outside in the cold, so i think they probably leave ther dogs in the garage or something, i havent seeen any dogs lurking around other peoples yards either.
and we're planning on getting her spayed after her first heat.

and my female dog is beginning to have nipples
is this a normal thing when a female dog is in heat for the very first time?
could she be pregnant? or is this a stage of puberty or something.

Thanks,Shela

My aunt decided to get me a little Teacup Chihuahua for my 15th birthday (3 days ago). I decided to call her Lila because... I like that name. I had NO idea anybody was going to be me a pet for my birthday. I really have nothing for her except a collar and a leash. She has been Vet checked and had all her shots but I really don't know anything about teacup chihuahuas. I have never really liked Chihuahuas. Our family pet (Zoe the Dalmatian) died just 3 months ago at age 14 so I'm not sure that I am really ready to look after this pup. I feel as if I have to though because my aunt paid almost $1000 for her which is a real lot of money for her.

Can someone please give me advice on looking after Teacup Chihuahuas? I need to know a lot about them. What diseases they can get, how to groom them, how long to walk her for, how much can she eat ect.

Because Zoe died only 3 months ago, I don't feel as if I will ever love Lila as much as I did Zoe. Is this normal or not?

Hello. I've found there are dozens of tiny, long/thin black specks on my dog's belly, concentrated mostly to one side of his penis, but not closer than half an inch or so to it. It took an hour to remove 10-20 of them. They act like slivers (you know, if you pinch the skin and bring it to a point at the opening of the hole, then push the fingernail against the bottom moving toward the hole, a sliver will just slip right out the way it came in). But it's hard to tell. Are they little bugs burrowing into his skin? I think at least some have been there for years, but it was only tonight, when I was treating a scratch, that I noticed some were just barely beneath the dead-skin layer... so I started pinching the skin, saw that they move underneath, and removed a bunch. I put some on tissue, so maybe I can buy a magnifying glass and look at them... but there was also a bulbous fresh-pimple-like pus-filled mass which had like 4 tiny ones encircling it. I'm very concerned! Any ideas??

I won't use any anti-bark collars that cause electric shocck or ultrasouds, but what about some collars that spray citronella? Do they work? And are they as humane as they sound?

Ok so we put out puppy in the hospital about 5 days ago and shes been going up and down, last night she ripped out her IV in her leg so all night she wasn't getting any meds. So it would be obvouis that she wasnt doing so well in the morning when the got to her.
They said after they put in her IV she "perked" up a little. Shes about 3 months old. A yellow lab, im so worried. She is like my child and i know the nurses are doing everything they can but i just wish i had someone with similar experiances. She just got her bloddy diahara back but thats becuase she ripped out her IV im geussing. Im just so worried i really want to know if its ab-normal for her to be in there for 5 days? They did say a couple days ago she was barking and walking around her cage so thats a good sign.

I just really want some anwsers, please please help =[

Ashley.

If we don't let him sleep between us, he'll just stand there and whine until we give it, and we end up not being able to snuggle or anything from the puppy being there!

What's the best way to ween him without him hating us?

We have adopted an Australian Shepherd we have been told she is appr. 1yr old. We only have had her for almost a month now, the Shelter say she an Australian Shepherd mix, Our vet says she is not a mix breed but looking @ the pictures of A. Shep. on the Internet she looks like she is not a mix breed, she has the short tail (wiggle butt) and she is mostly black with tri color brown and white. Anyone out there who know a lot about this breed
do they shed their coat big time? She shed a lot !

My female puppy eats my underwear if they are laying on the floor. She eats them right at the crotch as if she is attracted to the scent of my vagina. After me and my boyfriend have sex, both my puppies try to put there noses at his crotch and smell. what is it that makes them so attracted to the scents? What do they sense? Is it the hormones? what is it????

My puppy vomited earlier today and has been moping around the house ever since. Is there anything I can do to make her feel better? I read some where else to give her pepto-bismol, but she won't take it. What should I do? (She is 10 months old.)

I have a new puppy, Marty. He is a 2 month old Sheltie. However, he isn't potty trained and I am trying real hard to be patient. He will use puppy pads sometimes and sometimes he doesn't. I just bought a crate to try crate training. I have never had a dog that wasn't already potty trained. If you have dealt with this situation, please help me. Any suggestions on encouragement? How often to take him out? How long can he hold it? Oh, and to be a Sheltie is pretty big now, how big do they usually get?
