My male yorkie sometimes just chatters his teeth together, kinda like we do when were freezing. I know he's not cold. Why do they do this? I know it's nothing thats wrong with him. He's very healthy. His vet checkup was last week. But I forgot to ask this question. Any ideas?

No, it's not when he's nervous. Sometimes he'll kiss us on the face and start doing it. He can just be playing and all the sudden do it. It's so weird. I don't know. But it's never in a situation where he is nervous.

I was just curious if anyone else has had this problem. It's not everyday. oh, and it's not when he's excited or anything. He'll do it in the morning after waking up.

haha. . YES!!! my yorkie does this too. Quite funny acctually, yes its normal there is nothing wrong with him. i have a female yorkie and a male. my male does it when he smells my female. i asked the vet because i too was worried, the vet told me its when they lick or smell something that attacts them, or something they like. now not all of them do this, but alot of them do. its out of excitement, kinda like when we smile. they cant obiously, but they do the teeth thing...lol. hope this helps!!!!

Okay. My dog does the very same thing. She does it when she's really happy or excited. For example after she's been playing with her favourite ball she sits there teeth chattering or when she's been playing with her 'sister'.

So think about what happened just before the teeth chattering started......you'll probably find he's done something he really liked.

My male doberman used to chatter alot before he was neutered and when he was around females.

He also does it still occasionally when I have something really good to eat that smells good to him.

So - I'd have to say - "excitability" And just because he's kissed your face or just woke up doesn't mean your Yorkie isn't excited - maybe he is. Ha ha :-)
