It just means.....let it go...whatever, is troubling you, or you keep thinking about.......Let it go...do not think about it anymore.
It's an old saying.........In others words..do not let it get to you...
Just forget it.......do not bring up old baggage...
start life without it!!
It's easy to say, hard to do....
We have all been there....

I think it is actually "let sleeping dogs lie".
Lye is something totally different.

I think it originates from the book of Proverbs, where it says that a person who gets involved in someone else's dispute is like taking a dog by the ears...meaning they won't thank you for it and you'll probably get bitten.
The original quote is: "Like one who seizes a dog by the ears is a passer-by who meddles in a quarrel not his own." Proverbs 26:17
And I imagine if said dog was asleep at the time, his reaction would be that much stronger.

If someone is told to let sleeping dogs lie, it means that they shouldn't disturb a situation as it would result in trouble or complications.
