Your puppy is so lucky that you want to feed him the very best.
I have been breeding purebred dogs for the past 38 years. Two and a half years ago, I began feeding Canidae. I have tried all the major premium brands of kibble, but since feeding Canidae, I would never want to feed anything else. My old dogs became younger, my pups grew better than ever, and the in between are robust with good health. My dog's teeth don't need cleaned, and they have Sweet breath.
Take a look at the ALL HUMAN GRADE ingredients,
Chicken Meal, Turkey Meal, Brown Rice, White Rice, Lamb Meal, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Herring Meal, Flax Seed, Sun Cured Alfalfa Meal, Sunflower Oil, Chicken,.....

of course, you CAN feed your dog any food at all. anything they can chew and swallow will fill their stomachs. this is obviously a bad idea, though. yes, some brands are trying to give you sales pitches, but if you research which kinds of ingredients are best and worst for your pet, then you can see for yourself if the food is living up to its pitch. i use purina for my two dogs, but i have been looking into an organic food instead. many dog foods have ingredients such as chicken beaks, and other disgusting things. others have fillers, arfiticial things, etc. basically, if you don't pay attention to the ingredient list, you may be feeding your dog low-grade and junk food-like ingredients. i found some Newman's organic food today at www.onlynuaturalpet.com. they have free shipping, and the price isn't too bad. Great job on realizing that some foods are better than others, and on wanting the best for your dog!

There are so many out there on the market, just stay away from any that the first ingredient is corn mean or chicken meal, they are the worst, chicken meal is just ground up beaks and feet.
Look for whole ingredients, like chicken livers, brown rice, even fruits and veg added in, talk to your local pet store they should have the nutritional info on the foods they sell.

Iams makes a special food for large breed dogs. It has special nutrients in it to help their joints. Glucosamine and chondroitin, I believe, the same supplements they give adult humans for arthritis. They make a Large breed puppy food, and a large breed adult food, (feed puppy food until he is 1 year old.)

Our vet suggested Innova to us a few years back when we had an older dog with kidneys slowly shutting down. They don't have all those fillers and additives some foods do. Tho it is one of the more expensive brands on the market, we are happy with it.
