we have a 10week old aussie sheppard (we've had her almost 4 weeks now) and she loves to chew on people. i had a dog when i was younger that would play chew on you and if she actually started applying pressure we would just say "ow that hurts" and she would stop and "apologise" and i would like the new puppy to one day be like that. right now she loves to try to bite noses and lips and loves to gnaw on hands and arms, and in the past week has started chasing after us and grabbing the legs of our pants. when she starts biting, we say no and take our hands away, and if she bites hard we say ow and tell her she's not our friend and ignore her for a few minutes, but it doesnt seem to be working. i've even given her a tap on the nose once when she bit really hard, but that just seemed to make her want to bite more. any suggestions? i dont believe in hitting them, even with the newspaper. i've heard there is a way to roll their bottom lip in so they bite themselves, does it work?help!

We just found out our pom has been having skin irritations because he has allergies -- to something. The problem is, we don't know what yet. Before I start the process of elimination, I thought I'd ask if anyone else's poms have allergies and what they ended up being allergic to. Thanks.

Right now I'm trying to crate train my mastiff mix (80 pound 11 month old puppy) and he's not liking it too much. He has never done his business in the house except for the first day he was here.

Also, he doesn't like *any* toys or treats I give him. Kongs, Bones. He does seem to love real chicken guts.

Sometimes when I walk to work, this annoying dog barks at me, startling the heck out of me (since I don't know when he is there and he's behind this big wooden fence) and he tries to burrow under the fence so I can see his snout (black lab i think).

I hate dogs and I hate that he's so stupid and barks at me every time he's there. I want to stomp on his nose or something (of course i wouldn't). I really hate dogs and I know talking to dog owners is pointless - they just think you're weird, but I really hate dogs and this is exactly why I hate them.

One friend told me to feed it a dog treat but I don't want to encourage it. I want to drop something smelly or icky on the sidewalk as i pass so he learns to leave me alone whenever I pass by. Or something! help me please I really really hate dogs!!

I don't think he's lost any more blood than we would cutting our nails too short. I just want to stop the bleeding but I'm not sure if dressing it would help.

I wanted to try clicker training with our 5 month old adopted dog. When she heard the clicker, she backed off quickly even though I was trying to give her treats. I tried again and she ran and hid in a corner, clearly very distressed. She wouldn't let me near her with the clicker. She has never shown any fear of a noise or object, so this was really strange. Should I try to desensitize her to it, or just let it go? I would feel cruel doing that to her again, and I don't want to harm her trust of me....

I have a female Shiba Inu but Im not sure if I should keep her. We got her from a family who had both the mother and father, but it was obvious she was abused there. She is very loving and protective of me and plays fine with our other dog and our cat .When my mom came to visit us she bit her, and we all assumed it was because she was scared with new people and such. But shortly after that she bit my husband because he said bad and pointed at a piece of paper she ripped up. He didnt make any advance towards her or anything, just pointed at the paper. She is still a puppy, ten moths old, but we got her when she was 4 months old. Im pregnant and I dont know if this is something she will grow out of with time or was her initial experience of being abused going to stay with her forever, causing her to act out. She is getting better, now she doesnt cower in front of strangers and she plays with our neighbors kids, but do I want her around the new baby once I have it?

I've used a rug cleaner with OxyClean in it, with bleach in it and with white vinegar, but all it seems to do is make it worse.

My Great Dane Rory is out of control. I had some embarassing problems earlier with him pooping in inapproprite places. I took some advice and walk him in a big field for hours so he can do his business. Last night, I walked from 7 till 10 in a huge empty field and the stubborn mutt refused to go poop. So...then I was crossing a busy freeway and he decided to stop right in the middle of the expressway and go. It took at least 3 minutes, while cars and trucks were backed up, blaring their horns. I am so mad! Please advise. I could swear Rory was smiling too!

That whole thing really upset me - how she kept insisting that she wanted a dog and she didn't want to hear how she shouldn't leave it outside...yadda yadda. People like that have no business caring for animals.
