Your spayed dog may have Bordatella, a bacteria-based infection common in kennels, vet clinics, and other places where dogs are crowded together. The Bordatella cough is distinctive in that it is a harsh rasping couch (sounds like the dog has something caught in her throat). An easy test is to place the flat of two of your fingers against the base of the dog's throat and press in lightly. If the dog starts coughing, it's probably Bordatella.

Other things that might cause the cough are other forms of upper respiratory infection, the early stages of pneumonia (which is no t an uncommon side-effect to surgery), smoke inhalation, dog flu, damage to the throat during the anesthesia procedure, etc.

Call you vet and let them know the problem your dog is having. They can then check their records to see if other dogs brought in around the same time are experiencing similar problems. They can also suggest a form of treatment to help your dog recover more quickly.

Call your vet. It may only be due to anesthesia. I think that during spay or neutering, a tube is inserted down their throat for something, unsure about that, but it could also be Kennel Cough. If you dog has been vaccinated for Kennel Cough or otherwise known as bordetella, then it shouldn't be that. Also the bordetella vaccine is like the human flu shot. As you are aware, there are many different strains of the flu and the vaccine cannot cover all of them, as with the bordetella vaccine. Good luck and God Bless!

First, when a female dog is fixed it is called spaying. Second, coughing sounds like it could be Kennel Cough aka bordetella, it is an upper respiratory infection dogs get. It is very common, especially in an enviroment with lots of other dogs, its just like a human cold, easy to catch! It shouldnt get serious but i would definately reccommend getting an antibiotic from your vet to help your dog recoop.

the general term for all animals is neutering, but specifically in females its called spaying. so call it what you want. when was she spayed? if she came back coughing, she might have caught kennel cough and needs to be on meds. if it happened a few days-week later, then something else is up. you should talk to your vet and see if she needs to be checked out. it might just be allergies. my dog's have been really bad the past few weeks and she's been sneezing and coughing like crazy

Your dog was spayed.
And it sounld like she could have picked up bordatella when she was in the kennel or where she stayed when the spay was done.
It is like a cold in humans and very contageous.
Call your vet and have them take a look she may need some antibiotics to clear it up if she is infected.

First of all, with females, it's called spaying not neutering... LoL.... I am not sure if coughing is normal. Maybe they are just getting over the shock??
