My dog didn't eat it. The mouse was moving in his mouth, and by the time I got Louie to quit running around and playing with the mouse, it was dead.

Thanks for the answers!!

Just check your dog for fleas, as mice do carry the little critters..Otherwise, your dog will be fine, unless rat poison has been set out..

Are you sure the dog killed the mouse? They are great scavengers. If the mouse died from rat poison and the dog just found it, that could be bad if the dog eats the poisoned mouse.

Otherwise, you should be OK, as long as your dog has all it's shots. Mine have killed plenty of things over the years, they are both 9 y.o. now and doing fine.

I wouldnt worry TOO much about it, some dogs were bred to hunt and kill rodents though i know from experience with my dogs it can cause constipation or diarreah if they consume it, so watch for these things. If they start to occur, call your vet, let them know your dog ate a mouse, and they could MAYBE just perscribe you something to help with the potty trouble. Other than that, just keep an eye on your dog for a couple of days, if nothing happens by then, nothing will. i wouldnt lose sleep over it though, especially if your dog is up to date on shots!

Well hopefully your dog has it's shots and all but unless you left out some type of poison to cure your mouse problem don't worry too much....plus your dog has cured the mouse problem now ;)

If he has all this shots I wouldn't worry. Both of my dogs kill mice and, while I always take the mouse away, I've never had any problems. It's sad, our dog is a better mouser than our cat.

Our cat does the same thing, and he hasn't gotten sick yet. So, I wouldn't be too concerned, unless the mouse itself was sick or carrying some sort of disease before he died. In that event, I'd look into taking the dog to the vet so he can get checked out, merely as a precaution.

The dog or the mouse?

I think you should be worried a little. Keep an eye on the symptoms: not eating, throwing up, diarrhea, foaming at mouth. You should see any if any in about 3 days.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, especially if he didn't eat it. My dog kills mice in our barn ALL THE TIME (she kills more than the cats) and she has never gotten sick from doing so.
