Most female dogs actually produce more milk than their puppies need. And if you're pups seem content, they are probably getting well fed.

It's normal for puppies to "mewl" a lot, but if they're constantly howling or crying, it's usually because they're hungry. So, if your puppies are generally quiet; they've gotten enough to eat.

You can also test to see if they're getting hydrated enough by doing a simple skin-pull test. Take a hold of the skin on the back (nape) of the pup's neck between your fingers and pull it up away from the pup's body. Then release the skin. If it snaps back into its normal position, the puppy is getting enough fluid; if the skin returns slowly to its normal position or stays "pinched up", the puppy is dehydrated and may need supplemental fluid from you.

As long as the puppies are satisfied she is producing enough milk. If you find that the puppies are going to her and seem to always be hungry then you have a problem.

If they don't seem to be lacking than don't worry about it. If they nurse for a while and then stop and nap they have gotten plenty to eat. You will rarely, if ever, actually see the milk. It goes right out of the mama and directly into the puppies.

If the pups were not getting enough to eat, you'd know! They would be crying non-stop at the top of their lungs. Happy puppies are usually pretty quiet at first. As long as you see them nursing and growing I would say everything is fine.

If the puppies are happy and gaining weight, then it's enough. She will produce more milk as her pups grow and demand more. As demand grows, the supply grows to keep up with it.

If the pups seem to be getting enough, then you shouldn't worry. Of course, when you take them to the vet he/she can tell you if they are undernourished or if they're fine.
