I didn't ask if it was cruel, because I have my own idea of this! I just want the answer to the question not a point earner coming in here telling me how cruel it is!
THANKS!

The ideal time is 16 weeks old while the ear cartilage is still soft and ply-able. Too young, and the dog may wind up with ears that look much to small for the dog's size. The ear crop procedure is painful no matter what the age of the dog, but more and more vets are using pain patches to help with the after surgery pain. Even the after care of cleaning and re-splinting can be painful, but most vets use a quick acting tranq. to make it easier on the dog.
Why is it that people get a "thumbs down" for asking a perfectly legitimate question?

I think the oldest is 12 weeks and the youngest is 8 or 9 weeks old.

Notice all the "bleeding-heart" doofs *&* the UTTER IGNORAMUSES??? Those who ***DON'T*** know what the ****they're talking about?
**THAT'* why this is such a stupid place to ask!
Much younger than 12 WEEKS or over 16-20 will NOT have a good result!
There MUST be some "art" involved as well. ONLY use a PROFESSIONAL who KNOWS the BREED!!! A bad crop loolks like CRAP!!! & can rarely be fixed.

My vet likes to do them when they are about 12 to 14 weeks old. Some people suggest that you wait until the animal is full grown so the ears will be cut to fit the size of the dog. This is very painful. The larger the ears the more painful it is.

Younger is better for any surgery.
But there is not an age limit. I would wait till you are older and don't want to meet any women. Cutest thing on a dog and what attracts me the most is ears. I just had my border collie cut her ear real bad (damn wiener dog bit her) and now I don't want to touch her cute fluffy ears anymore. Best way to calm an uptight dog is to rub their ears too. It is very calming.
Now don't get me wrong there are some great tattooed pierced and gold toothed women that like the mean cut look on a dog.

I agree with answer number one - it's better when they are younger. They recover so much faster.
As for all you guys who think it's so cruel, has anyone ever asked a baby boy if he enjoyed his circumcision?

It depends on the vet but most are done about nine weeks and not much older.
Our vet does Dobermans at nine weeks any older than that the answer is no he will not do it.

Cropping of the dogs ears is cruel, and should not be done. If you feel that you must mutilate a dog to make yourself feel better then you can have the ears done between the ages of 8 weeks, and 1 year.

Don't do it. It is very painful for them and they look more friendly with them floppy, no matter what the breed.
