I recntly bought a basset hound puppy. And even though it's as cute as a bug's ear it seems to be a bit umm, well, less smart. He goes to the bathroom anywhere, keeps biting everything and everyone even though we're trying to teach him otherwise.. Is there any way to train a Basset Hound or are they just too into themselves??

He's a 7 year old male German Shepard cross. Recently (within the last few months) when we take him out for walks he has started to growl and bark at almost every dog he sees.

Can anyone suggest a reason for this or give any serious advice for a prevention.

As you can imagine we are worried in case he tries to fight a pit bull or other such dangerous dog.

Apart from this he is a gentle dog in every other way and lets children pull him all over the place.

I have a 4 month old yorkie-chi. She does not like going outside for walks or anything. I have her litterbox trained. I can get her to go out on our screened-in deck for some fresh air if I'm right next to her the whole time. Do I need to force her to have outdoor time every day or is just playing games in the house enough?

This is one of the funniest books I've ever read. It details the saga of a young couple who purchase a goofy black lab puppy...highly recommend it.

I have a mixed breed dog that I've had since he was 6 weeks old. Most people I ask say he looks part shephard, part husky, part rott, and so on. When he was about 10 weeks old his tongue started to turn black in the middle. Some say it's a sign of having some Chow in him but I just read that if it's pink to start off and turns blue or black it could be a sign of malenoma or cancer. Anyone else ever heard of that?

My Pug has really itchy skin, when you pet her or anything she just wants to be scratched. On her back, side, stomach and back legs the most. She'll sit on the floor and go back and forth trying to lick her front paws but she has no raw spots. The vet put her on an anti-hystamine but this time it doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas?

I have my own dog that's a German Shepherd/Collie mix. He's fairly large, gentle, and sweet. He's also afraid of little animals (I think he's scared he'll hurt them).

I just found out I need to take in my sister's female Min Pin for a long term stay (maybe up to a year because she's temporarily moving). She's quite spunky and wrestles with other dogs (though she's only been exposed to dogs half the size of mine). They did meet once and they were afraid of each other.

Anyone have any experience in them getting to know each other and be less afraid? Will Min Pins stay away from larger dogs? I do realize this mostly depends on the individual, but don't know if they have a pre-disposition.

Also, my dog is fixed (and I've never seen him hump anything or any other dog), but the Min Pin is not yet because she's young. We're gonna get her fixed next month. Should I expect some "action" between them? Kinda nervous about that cuz she's so small and he's so big.

I have had this male yorkie for almost 4 years. We are a military family so he has been through 4 moves with us. He's always done really well. This last house we were in he absolutely loved. He had his first real back yard with a chainlink fence and lots of other dogs in view to bark at, watch, etc. He loved it and always wanted to hang out there. Now we've moved to a large house with a large backyard, but with a privacy fence. He's not happy with the move at all. Whenever he gets the chance he jumps into the car and refuses to get out like he wants me to take him to the old place. I feel bad.

Well, we've been there three days now and I have found 3 spots where he has peed in the house. I haven't had this problem with him in years. This is the first time that we have actually had carpet. he gets plenty of time outside. The only thing I can think of is it's the carpet that is confusing him or he is just really p*ssed off and showing it that wya. what should I do?

We have a pitbull who is in heat. On the ninth day of her heat we brought a male to our home to mate with her. The first night she was standing and he was mounting but not getting his penis all of the way in but they were trying. That was two nights ago, and since that night he won't mount her any more. He just licks her and walks away. She is still bleeding and stick her rear out at him and trying to get him to mount. We only have the male for about 2 more days and I am worried. By the way they are both a good age to breed and the female has had 2 litters and I think the male is experienced too. Also I know that they say to bring the female to the male's house but in this situation it is impossible to do. Thanks for the help!
