My golden retriever is 8 months. Her tail is starting to fan out and her hair is beginning to grow but it is still far from what it will eventually be. I saw a beautiful one at the dog park with long flowing hair nearly touching the ground. Also, the final colour of your dog should be whatever the colour of her ears is now. Mine is darkening down the back now but still has a lot of blonde. She won't be a red-colored golden.

Her coat will start to get long around 1 & 1/2 - 2 years old. It's the same for most long haired dogs (collies, shelties, etc.)The vet I work for has a 6 month old Golden Retriever and the only fur on her that is sort of long is on her tail. Even that just looks like a bit of feathering. People always ask if she's a yellow lab. Be patient, it'll happen.

Kind of depends on a lot of factors - genes, early environment, and the individual animal. If this pup has been with his mother and litter mates up til now that is a good start - early socialisation before 16 weeks is absolutely vital, and they should get this from their litter mates up until at least 8 weeks of age. I advise you take the puppy to puppy classes, this will continue that vital socialisation as well as start you off with basic training and help you with all aspects of care. Also make sure you get all your advice on health and preventative health care (flea, worming, neutering and vaccination) from a vet, not Yahoo like so many people do! Chalice

It will take 12-18 months for her to become a full glorious golder retriever. Until that happens enjoy the cute fluffy puppy you have now!

With most dogs, they have 2 coats, a puppy coat and an adult coat. She will get her longer coat when she gets closer to adulthood, at least by the time she is 6-9 months old. Be patient and she will be beautiful.

I have 2 pure bred goldens. One has long blond hair and one has short red curly hair. It may not grow long.
Goldens are a mix of newfoundlands, irish setters, and labs.
Our one got a little more of the irish setter line in him.

her hair will grow as she sheds her "puppy" fur.
i'd say it'll gradually happen over the next few months. i'd guess that you'll probably start to see long hair closer to her 1 year b-day.
aww...gotta love the goldens!!!

her hair will grow as she grows. You could probably expect full length by 6-8 months.
