If you were to be gone for 8 days, you should've left your puppy with a pet sitter, or somebody who will be willing to take care of your puppy while he's away. Puppies needs to chew, play, needs attention, and excercise. Being trapped in a cage does not help the puppy grow. What do you expect when you leave a young puppy alone in a cage? First of all, I hope you learn this, when you go for a long time, leave your pet with someone to take care. A puppy probably can't live without food or water for more than 4 days. Your lucky your puppy is still alive. Which I am wondering now, did you at least left him food?? Retrain your puppy to not do their buisness everywhere, and buy your puppy something to chew on like a toy or a chewcookie.

What a shame =( I have a new pup myself and i would feel horrible enough after "letting" this happen, although unintentional of course, without asking a question hoping for help and being reprimanded by a bunch of people who didn't take the time to read the entire question.
Be sure not to leave her with your roommate again, since they didn't do a very good job, and be patient it isn't the pups fault =) Keep a close eye on her and get back to training... once she feels safe again, it may all come back quickly.
Chin up and best of luck

This wasn't the best time for you to be gone for 8 days with a little puppy at home. He is a baby and is attached to you and it's like having a human baby around. You are like his mom and he missed you!
You will have to start all over again with the training though and this time don't leave for a long period of time until he is trained!

Uh yeah, he probably had to soil his "den" and has now undone all the training previously mastered. It is a puppy, and they get bored very easily. So he is living it up now that he is out. Next time you have to leave for a while, take him to a boarding kennel. He will get exercise, mental stimulation and it is a GREAT source of socialization. Just be sure that you ask how often they get out and take tour of the facility, there are WAY too many dirty kennels out there. Also, make sure the other dogs look happy, clean, well fed, and have plenty of water.

Hopefully you will not have to leave him again.
find a GOOD kennel to board him at. It is your dog NO ONE ELSES. Don't relie on room mates!
You will have to start all over with training. If you plan to be gone a lot - you might want to find a new home for him. Puppies have to be let out EVERY HOUR. once they are 4 months old they can wait for about 4 hours. ONLY a dog can wait 8 hours!
You need to ask yourself - " Can I provide a good home for this dog?" if not get him a good home.

sounds like he has developed some anxiety.
i'm not sure, without more details, though.
i mean, did you just leave him in his crate and someone came over 3 times a day to give him some food and let him go potty??
or, did you put him in a kennel for the 8 days??/
either way...sounds like he had a bad reaction to your trip and i would give him as much love and attention as possible. don't act funny, just give him lots of attention. hopefully, this will get him back on track.
puppies are pretty resilient, so some extra love, attention and exercise should get him back on track.
we left for 4 days and kenneled our pup....we found a really nice kennel for him w/ inside/outside runs and scheduled playtime.
he had a great time, except he ate the wooden door in his run:( fortunately, the kennel owner told us we didn't have to pay for it...they expect those things to happen when they have labs come for a visit!
so, next time you go away...try to plan out your plans for your pup a little more and make sure he's getting plenty of attention while you're gone.
our kennel "the canine country club" only cost us $17/day.
take care!

what would you do if you were locked in a cage for 8 days!
Perhaps you should consider getting rid of the puppy if he is doing to caged for days, even if he is getting out for potty breaks or just a few minutes. That's pretty cruel. You should send him to a boarding facility next time.

Of course he is! The poor little guy was virtually abandoned for 8 days!
Either spend a lot of time with him, or give him to a home where someone will.

You fool, would you leave your child caged up alone for 8 days?????????? You totally traumatised it . You shouldn't even be allowed to own a pet. Do you know that dogs are gods favorite animal? You better take ALOT better care of yours because you will be answering to him/her one day. If I knew where you were I'd call animal cops on you.
