We have a pitbull who is in heat. On the ninth day of her heat we brought a male to our home to mate with her. The first night she was standing and he was mounting but not getting his penis all of the way in but they were trying. That was two nights ago, and since that night he won't mount her any more. He just licks her and walks away. She is still bleeding and stick her rear out at him and trying to get him to mount. We only have the male for about 2 more days and I am worried. By the way they are both a good age to breed and the female has had 2 litters and I think the male is experienced too. Also I know that they say to bring the female to the male's house but in this situation it is impossible to do. Thanks for the help!

I just want to let dogtrainer416 know that you should shut your mouth because I did not ask you if I should be breeding dogs! I wanted tips on why the male is not humping the female when she is on the 12th day of her estrus cycle. Thanks for wasting my time!

To all of you people who think that I am breeding junk-pups you have no idea about what I am doing. Both the male and female are from great blood lines. Don't answer questions unless you know what the hell you are talking about!

I would suggest sending the female to the male instead of bringing the male to you. Females adapt to change better than male dogs and that may be your problem. Are they together all of the time or are you keeping them seperated? maybe you should put them in a small room together and leave them be? Just some options. Try this webiste - there could be something here that will help you out http://www.debbiejensen.com

She likely wasn't as ready as she thought she was. Give them time. Also, I'd like to add that I agree. People that have a problem with breeding shouldn't do it. As for the rest of us, we usually do know what we are doing and people should just mind their own business!

Millions of wonderful dogs are being put to sleep due to simple lack of a home. And pits make up a large percentage of those. The breed is in a terrible state at the moment. For the love of the breed, please spay your dog.
But, hey, here is some dog breeding info: http://www.pbrc.net/breeding.html

I raise dachshunds and have the same problem sometimes. Seperate them for the day and bring them together this afternoon. When she is not as accessible to him he will become a little more persistant in his efforts to breed. Also she may not quite be soft enough for him to penetrate. Prime breeding days are the 10-14th days after spotting starts.

She may stand but actual breeding doesnt happen until about 10 days into the bleeding cycle. Let them be....they know what to do. And good luck.

The 9Th day you may have caught her at the end of her cycle. Just leave them together for the two days and maybe they will do better alone.

Otherwise you will have to wait until next time.
