I'm a single woman, I'll be moving into a house soon, alone, and I want to get a guard dog, but I have no previous experience with owning one. I love animals and I'm a responsible person. I was just wondering what breeds I should consider. I know that smaller dogs can be reliable guard dogs, however, these dogs cannot pin down a large man, if need be. Any help would be great.

My dog felt hot around his ears and on his back when I left for work this morning. Can this indicate a fever? He was acting sleepy, which is not abnormal. I don't have a rectal thermometer, but will run out and get one if necessary...

We've recently gotten a black lab from some friends. She is 1 1/2 years old and is trained OK in the basics (sit, kennel, go), but we would like to train her better. I haven't had a dog in forever.

I have a three year old indoor dog and we have some bad allergies to him in our family. We have been discussing moving him outdoors to live. He is used to being outside during the day when we are at work, but I am not sure if he will be happy outside all the time, when he is used to indoor life with the family. Will he feel lonely? I plan to set him up with a dog box right outside the back door, so he can still see us inside. I will still spend time with him, but he will not be around us all the time like he is now. Would he be better off in an indoor home with people who can give him the attention he needs, or will this work out keeping him outside?

I love dogs. I am single male the lives in a large apartment. There is plenty of play area in my apartment complex in around it. I want a smart dog the likes to do tricks because I like training them. I also would like the dog to be low key so that it will do its own thing. A dog that doesnt need my attention all the time. Any information will help. Thanks.

My seven month old puppy LOVES to chase the red dot, just like my cats chase the dot! Do dogs do this very often, or did he learn this game from my cats?

He also EATS catnip! Just how weird is my pup?

My brother in law is looking for a dog that he can walk and ride a bike with. So a dog that can be active but not hyper. He's already had a German Shepard and is looking for something different. It also needs to be kid friendly as I have a 5 yr old and a baby on the way, my husband and I visit their house a lot. Oh yeah, they have a huge yard, but it's not fenced in, so the dog would also have to be boundary trained easily. This is not a teenager that could handle a dog that has in it's description, needs an experienced trainer, as he is not. So an all round good family dog, but NOT a common dog, like labrador, golden ret. and a dog friendly dog.
