i have a dachsund but dont get that if you dont want to work. dachsunds & jack russels are hard to take care of. but i advise you to get a small dog. they are more easy to take care of. probably a beagle because it doesnt shed or bark. & VERY CUTE...trust me. i know the facts.

I have 2 mutts and one is a rescue the best dog is one you have saved from euthanasia in a kill shelter. Hundreds of thousands of dogs are killed every year in shelters across the world 30% are Purebred dogs that have been discarded by uncaring owners along with beautiful and unique mutts. Many of them are already house trained and well adjusted so you dont have to go through the puppy phase.....Do everyone a favour and save a life instead of lining the pockets of a dog breeder who only does it to make money even though there are already not enough homes for the abandoned dogs in the world!!!! Please Please Adopt a dog!!! Oh and by the way there is no best kind of dog all are loyal and constant friends and guardians......However certain breeds are better suited to certain lifestyles....for example if you stay at home alot and dont like to walk around you wouldnt want a sporting or working dog since they have high energy...or if you hate vacuuming you wouldnt want a double coated long haired breed like a Collie. Do research on the breed you are thinking of getting to find out how big they get activity level....and general personality type like guardian or lap dog etc.

I have a Sheltie , Sliky And Westie . I love them all and many other breeds I think you should get yourself a good dog book or look on the Internet for different dog breeds and then you can learn for your self what to expect from different breeds. Good luck and remember being a dog owner is like being a parent , it's a big commitment but very rewarding!!!

I have a precious maltese that is 17 years old. He has been a very fun and faithful companion. Even though he is now showing his age, he is almost blind .... but he is very much part of my family. Get one that you really bound with.

I have a mini dachshund. He is very active and loyal. I have also had a poodle mix and a schnauzer mix. Both of these were lower energy and very loyal and affectionate.
