He keeps trying to get out anyway he can. Tries to cut wire with his teeth and has even made holes at the side where the fence connects to wiggle out. I fixed the side and he wiggled out again this morning.

He already has toys and a big pan of water. He gets fed everyday and we even take him out of the pen eveynight to walk around in the yard while we are outside with him. I live in the city and we can't let him run lose without putting him back up.

You need a better gauge of chain link!!!!!! And get 4 panels that are hooked together with fence hardware. It sounds like your set up is shoddy!!!

This will require you keeping your dog elsewhere for a couple of days... You will need a shovel, a wheelbarrow (prefered, but a bucket will do) and several bags of a product called quickcrete. (lowes, home depot, any hardware store or farm center)
Dig a trench approximately 2 - 3 feet deep (doesn't need to be wide just deep) beneath the fence of the pen going all the way around.
Mix the quick crete and fill the trench. cover the quickcrete wuth some dirt once dry.
Your dog will hit a solid surface when he/she tries to dig out again, and will eventually give up.

You don't say what kind of dog it is - that would be helpful. I have 2 Siberian Huskies and they can be difficult to keep inside a yard (this breed of dog are also known as escape artists). You can try getting him some rawhide bones to chew on and make sure he has plenty of toys, although this didn't help my dogs much, they will still get out if they can. Getting another dog helped my situation somewhat as far as keeping each other company, but now I have 2 dogs to worry about getting out, and they will still chew on things I don't want them to chew on if something is left within their reach. You can also try giving him more attention and taking him for long walks. My 2 dogs are high maintenance - they require a lot of attention and a lot of exercise. I own my own business and work out of my home, so I have them in the house with me as much as possible. They also get taken on long walks which wears them out and they will nap for awhile. Hope this helps. Also, this is for Trex on up the board - maybe somebody should beat you with a belt, newspaper, house shoe, bat, etc. I really hope you do not have any pets for the animal's sake.

Bored!!! How to fix? re-arrange your schedule if possible and take your dog on an early morning walk, and make it a long walk where the dog is tired. Kong toys. puzzles that give treats. is the pen in the shade? Is there a responsible kid in your neighborhood that would take your dog for walks while you are at work? What breed is your dog? Male dog not nuetered? they can smell a female in heat for upto 2 miles away...when he gets out does he take off in search of something or just to break out and hang around the surrounding houses?

if you were locked in a pen while your family was inside what would you do???
dogs are pack animals....and YOU and your family is its pack. He's BORED and he doesn't understand why he is being banished to the pen.
TOYS TOYS TOYS...if he must be in the pen. and then TAKE THAT DOG for a walk!!!! if you not going to spend time with him, for the love of the dog! take him to the SPCA, or humane society....and let them find a home for him that will let him be part of the family!

Why don't you put an electric fence around the pen, it doesn't hurt them only shocks them, but if you have small children that is not even an option, but it will keep them from getting out, they will soon learn their lesson.

I saw what Lovpayn described in a landscaping show where they built a pen for a problem pooch like yours. Apparently it really does work. You'll also want a heavy gauge wire if your dog is biting it.
Good luck! And apologies if I mangled anyone's name here...

Perhaps a bigger pen is needed with some toys and things to do. Otherwise, tie him up.
