When you say "after the heat period", do you mean when it's been hot outside, or after she's been "in heat" (having her period)? Loosing her appetite in either case is not unusual, but if it is to the point that she is loosing weight, most pet stores carry a mild (and Hi Calorie) supplement paste in a tube that you can give to her. It is usually intended for puppies, or sometimes older dogs that have been sick, but it is perfectly fine to give to dogs that just seem to have no appetite. If the condition persists for a longer amount of time though, it's back to the vet to find out what's really wrong! I've used it for two of my dogs, and so has one of my friends who had very underweight Italian Greyhound. Worked for all of us. Good luck!

What kind of dog food are you feeding her? Perhaps a new kind of dog food would peak her interest to eat again. Despite popular belief, dogs just like people, crave a variety of foods. Are you just feeding her dry food? Then try a different dry food. Beneful is a good and nutritious dog food and has a variety of different flavors and tastes.
If that doesn't work, check out what Drs. Foster & Smith has. It is a catalog filled with dog and cat items to get. They have a certain kind of dog gravy to put on the dog's dry food, that is to boost the dog's appetite and give them a variety too. Don't use people gravy though. People gravy is too salty and dog's aren't used to salty foods.
If everything else fails, call your vet and ask him or her what you can give your dog so she will eat again.
Good luck to you and your dog!! Dogs are wonderful companions and the best friends we humans could ever have!
I hope I was some what helpful to you!

Try lots of little things to see what smells and tastes good to her. Have you tried cooked cold or raw broccoli? A lot of dogs like it. Try cheese or sometimes rice cooked in beef broth but left to cool works too. Dogs are like us though. We pig out before our "heat" period and then taper off.

Honestly thats not something you should worry too much about. My dog had the same problem, all it is is the hormones from her period. If you really feel this is a problem spay your dog. Not only does that save you from worry it saves you home from any bad behavoir and and fluids.

apparently a spoon of yogurt stimulates the appetite for dogs. i used to do that with my dog when she was young and it helped her appetite and digestion.
