is the spot crusty? is it red and spotted? it could be a lot of different things. It's probably cause by over grooming, excessive licking, biting and what not. This is usually a sign of allergies. could be seasonal, could be food, or could be fleas. my advice, give the dog a soothing oatmeal bath, follow with a flea treatment, treat the one spot with sulfadine (a hot spot remedy you can buy at the grocery store little brown glass bottle) and start researching healthy allergy diets for dogs. i recomend Solid Gold or Nature's Variety Prairie.

could be a few things, dry spot maybe and it irritates him so much that he chews or scratches it away or there is a stress induced reason for an animal to loose their hair most common in dogs but my cat has it is called Red Hair Mange, this is not like the regular mange but a condition caused when an animal goes through a stressful situation; take him to the vet. there is a steroid cream for this condition.

If it is a small spot the culprit is probably ringworm. Is it in a circle? Check with the lights out with a black light if it is ringworm the area that is loosing fur will glow under the black light. simple cure is some overthecounter anti-fungal (read the label not all anti-fungals treat ringworm). If it is ringworm, treat twice a day until the fur grows back (about 14 days)

Probably it is what they call a hot spot. It is an allergic reaction to something in the environment. Take the dog to the vet. Mine was prescribed an over the counter treatment that I could buy at the K mart.

it could be hereditary mange, i recently saw two dogs that have it. It is passed down from parents or grandparents. The dog will have it for the rest of its life but it can be treated when it flares up. the main cause of the breakouts is stress. if it looks scabby or scaley then that could be it. don't worry though it is not contageous if it is the hereditary kind ok. just please take your dog to the vet asap :)

I agree, take it to a vet. My dog had a tick on her and it made her hair fall out in one spot too.

Fleas and/or flea allergy, dermatitis, ezcema, behavioral problems (overgrooming)
I would treat for fleas. If fleas are 100% gone and the spot hasn't improved, I'd see a vet.

depends,, whats it look like? could be a flea problem more than likely not. could be allergies, or it can be ringworm or a type of mange. its hard to tell without looking at it. have the vet look, and if they suspect mange they will do a skin scraping and look under microscope to see.
