Cats - November 2007

This is one of them questions which people get heated about. I know it's safer to keep cats inside but my vet (and many other vets i've spoke to) believes that cats are hunters and they belong in the outdoors... but if my cat has never seen the outdoor world he wont know any different...right?
What do you think????

My kitty is 9 months old now. He's a ragdoll and he's really sweet. The breeder asked me to neuter him but I am worried that that will change his personality.. He's really kittenish and adorable right now..

I buy fancy catnip mice, mice that vibrate and do tricks and Iggy totally ignores them. What does he play with? a brown paper bag, twistie ties from bread wrappers and the plastic rings from milk jugs! sheesh!

you don't think those worms are bad? I hope the vet gets rid of her worming problems.

I tried putting down cocoa shell mulch thinking they wouldn't like the texture/wouldn't like walking on it, but that didn't work. Thanks

One of my cats has a lump on his back, and it is bleeding very badly. The lump is now 2 inches large. I'm wondering what it is and if it is contagious. I am guessing that it is just a tumor, but I would like second opinions. What else could it be? I'm going to have to take him to the vet though. (My cat is very old by the way.)

i got my Siamese cat when he was just 3 months old... so from weaning from his mother, he went into my care.

He is such a sweet cat, so loving and loyal.

Now he's almost 10 months old.. HE'S SCARED OF EVERYTHING!

He's scared of neighbors, new friends coming over, construction workers remodeling our house, my grandfather's wheelchair ( when my grandpa was here )... he's scared of meeting new people basically!

I need help! He even hyperventilates when he's in his cage and surrounded with new people!

I love him soo much, like a baby... but maybe is it because I babied him too much?

please, i do need help with this one guys... i want my cat to be more courageous with new things in his life!

so i have a 6 year old female cat that has always had some allergy problems, especially to fleas, which i have taken care of with frontline in the past, or she gets over it on her own. but now she is scratching herself raw and sneezing alot (maybe 6 times an hour or so). she is covered in scabs and scratches and chews on herself constantly but has no fleas at all, i checked her thoroughly. she has also always been a nervous cat, so i suppose this could be a symptom of stress? she rarely leaves my bedroom lately as well. shes eating fine and seems to have energy. i have another cat who is scratching herself raw as well but is not sneezing and does not hide in my room all day. so my question is - do any of you have any clue why she is scratching and sneezing so much? is it allergies? is it stress? or something else? also, she hasnt been to the vet in a few years, as she is technically my mom's and my mom doesnt have much money right now to take our 5 cats to the vet. please help me!!!

She is long-hair, solid white, blue eyes, yes she is deaf. She wants to eat all the time. She has a sister just like her, except can hear. I leave dry cat food out at all times, plus they share a can of tuna or something every day.
Miss Kitty wants to eat from the table. No matter what it is, she wants to eat it. I think she is a little overweight.
Her sister, KiKi, does not share her fetish for food.
Is it okay to feed the cats table food???
Why does she want to eat so much but the twin doesn't?

I have 3 dogs and 3 cats. I gave them a bath (even the cats) and got all the flea eggs and fleas off them. I used Dawn dish washing soap, which is what my vet recommended. Then after they got fully dried I put flea collars on the cats that was supposed to kill the fleas, ticks, and flea eggs. I put a liquid flea killer on my dogs that was supposed to do the same thing as the collars. And I sprayed the carpet of my home with a poison for the fleas. Now roughly about 10 days later I have fleas and flea eggs all over them again. This last time I didn't use any of the expensive flea killers like Advantage and Frontline because they weren't working when I used them before so I figured why waste my money. I'm starting to feel like I have some kind of immortal fleas around my home.

So what can I do to give them and me some relief from these little pests? Have you had this problem before, what did you do??

Thanks for your answers

I was outside playing with my neighbors cat ( which they said is "well taken care of"..idk if that means it is vaccinated or not) and it scratched me. I am not sure if it punctured my skin because i have arash there and was not able to tell. Since their cat lives inside with them and goes out during the day, do i need to get a rabies shot?

We took in a stray tabby cat a few months ago. We fed here any store brand on sale at first like Friskies,Fancy Feast,Whiskas,9 lives,Purina ONE,purina cat chow, etc etc. And she shed like crazy. and of course they are low- end cat foods.

We switched to Innova dry cat food, and Innova EVO(if it's on sale)
after my friend who is currently fostering 14 cats reccomended it to us. 9 days it's been and her coat is just so glossy. And she hasn't shed at all. why is it that cats fed good quality food shed less?

I just got a new baby kitten and I'm concerned about it eating feathers. I bought it some toys that have feathers on them that I've realized are fairly easy to rip off. I'm just wondering if anyone knows what kind of complications can come if it were to eat one accidentally.

I read recently that most cats don't get proper nutrition because the food they're fed is not designed for their needs. It said cats get most of their moisture and protein from the food they kill in the wild and that dry foods are no good because cats aren't supposed to eat starches like rice and corn and the moisture and protein levels are too low. It suggested that if raw diets took too much time and canned food was too expensive, you could put a raw egg in with their dry food once in a while and it would help. Is this true? How often should it be done if it is? What are the benefits? What are the dangers? Thanks.

I WILL NEVER DO THIS.

Would it hurt if someone were to cut off one of its pokey things on its tongue (if the cat stayed motionless for long enough) ?
