My kitty is 9 months old now. He's a ragdoll and he's really sweet. The breeder asked me to neuter him but I am worried that that will change his personality.. He's really kittenish and adorable right now..

Should you have your cat neutered? Theanswer is yes, and for a number of reasons.
An unaltered male makes a terrible pet. He will spray foul-smelling urine all over your house and furniture, and he will become aggressive and irritable if denied female company. Neutering is a very simple operation for a male cat. You can bring him to the vet in the morning and pick him up that evening. You will find the cat's personality unchanged after the operation. As a matter of fact, having a cat altered prevents the unpleaseant personality changes that may occur as the cat matures sexually.

Spaying and Neutering is the best thing you can do for your cat. I have 8 cats, all "fixed" Not only is it the best way to stop the birth of unwanted cats and dogs, it's better for their health. Spaying or Neutering will not change your cat's personality. That isn't exactly true. My cat's still play like they are kittens, but they have all become a little more loving. All cat's have a natural tendency to to be "kittenish" while they are kittens, but like everything else alive, they do mature and calm down.

FYI neutering won't necessarily keep kitty from spraying. They are still territorial. I have 8 cats, 4 who still spray, especially when the neighborhood kitties come to visit.

I don't think neutering or spaying kittens will change their personality. It just changes the behavior of becoming sexually active.

A cat at 6mo. can be neutered, and should. The sooner the better, actually. At 6mo., cats are at the stage where they are sexually mature and start to find a mate. Also, a male cat like yours, could spray around the house if unneutered, and could wander and start to fight.

What's more likely to change his personality is NOT being neutered. Non-neutered males can be more aggressive and are more likely to spray your house to mark their territory (and yes, that's oilier and stinkier than just urine). Once they start, they don't stop; neutering after they start spraying won't stop it. They'll also be more likely to want to wander (in hopes of finding a nice unspayed female cat perhaps?) and dash out the door even if you want to keep them inside (as is safer for them). Personally, I'm surprised that the breeder hadn't had him neutered already.

NEUTER HIM

It does not change their personality. All it will do will stop his urine from stinking, and stop him wanting to run off to find a mate.

You have a responsibilty as a cat owner to neuter this cat. There are far, far too many cats dying in shelters to be running the risk of bringing any more into the world. The breeder asked you to neuter him, please do it.

I've heard that it doesn't alter their personality. Sometimes male cats may be less active, but you can keep their interest up by playing with them, etc. Another consideration: unaltered male cats are inclined to spray urine on furniture, etc. and if there's a female anywhere in the neighborhood who's in heat he will find a way out to get to her. I think I'd go for the neutering.

Yes it is best for the cat. For one thing if he is a male he will go to wanting to wander off to find females in heat. Plus in a male it will pervent the chances of testies cancer. It is best health wise and he will only change slightly. I got 3 pets and all 3 are fixed. My bull dog didn't get fixed till he was 7 yrs old but I came from country to city so it was best all the way around. In my 3 pets the only thing I seen change is they do gain a bit more of weight.

I would neuter him. For the sake of less hassle later on and in truth now is better than later as their bodies heal faster, and it shouldn't change him much. The only change will a slightly added body shift of weight but nothing harmful or bad. It'll also as stated already make him less nervous and such when a female in heat comes around and he will be less likely to mark his territory.

Guaranteed it won't. My 5-year old neutered cat is still kittenish.

Yes you should. What if your kitty gets out and breeds? Your grandkittens could just be left to the wild if you don't neuter your cat.
