Most likely tape worms but could be round worms. The little worms are pieces of the bigger worms in the intestines if its tape worms.

If she's picked up one parasite.. she may have another. She needs to have a fecal exam at the vet and a dose of de-wormer. It's generally not very expensive - total visit should be under $100.

The litterbox needs to be emptied and new litter put in to hopefully get her interested in the box again. I'd do it again after she gets treated to prevent re-infection. Clean it with bleach too and wash it out really really good. Actually - if one cat has worms, any other cats in the house are prone too as well. Your vet may let you bring in just the poop from the other cats (if you can identify what belongs to who) and send home medicine.

As for you getting infected, if you handle cat feces and don't wash your hands.. you're at risk. Otherwise, don't worry about it.

Also, the over the counter de-wormers are sometimes effective and sometimes not. The goodness in going to the vet is that the vet will identify exactly what kind of parasites are in your cat - she may have more than one - and the over the counter stuff is generally specific and doesn't cover everything.

If she has not been dewormed yet, she is not doing it on her own. It's something the vet has to give her. Worms can hurt her. I would imagine her little tummy is all swollen (probably full of worms), and this can cause her to not want to jump in her litter box to poop. She must be under a couple months old, right? It's not in all cat's instincts to just hop right in the litter box, either. Most especially not if they are having a problem. Make sure you are cleaning up after her big time. I would keep her where there's tile. You don't want that runny stuff in your carpet.

Good luck to you!

I just read the post above me.. PLEASE do not try to worm the cat yourself. It's not a good idea.

You will have to take her back to the vet for another deworming. Unfortunately, this is something that will keep happening if she is exposed to anything else that has worms...everything needs to be very clean before she is introduced back into the home... and NEVER let her outdoors! Cats belong inside...they are fully domesticated animals. If they weren't, they would be called tigers.

It is probably a tape worm that cats get from eating fleas. Call your vet and he may just give you a pill to give the cat or he may want you to bring the animal in. Even if you get rid of them today unless you get rid of the fleas tape worms will return. You will need to treat you cat for fleas also. It is not an emergency and can wait until your vet's office opens on Monday.

If she has not been dewormed recently you really need to get her to the vet so that she can be. Worms can make her sick.

they are tape worms, they will crawl out of the poo if its inside and end up in you, they can grow to about 25 cm long and infest your family, worming tabs will sometimes work but does not kill the eggs and re-infestation will continue, the vet and your doctor may need to use a rectal flush to rid you of the pests

If she's poopen on the floor YOU need to get de-wormed too! (sometimes cat don't use their litter box because they don't like where they are placed, try a new location.....)
