would someone please tell me why my two and a half year old nutered cat is trying to scratch inside his ears. he has scratched so hard until he has scratched out all the hair near his ear and it turned red. i put a lil antibiotic cream(neosporin)on the sore area and i orderd some anti itch hydrocotizone cream from drs. foster & smith for the itching, but he still keeps trying to scratch in his ear. could it be ear mites? when i look in his ears, they look clean.i dont have money for a vet, so is there something i can buy from petland discount in my neighborhood that would help with whatever is in his ears, now hes started to scratch at both of them. thank you so much for any answers(in laymans terms please).

I recently got two kittens. They're about 12 weeks old now and I just took them to the vet yesterday for the first time. Since it was the first time, they gave us a couple "kitten kits." One of the things was a sample of heartguard. I give my dogs heartguard, so I am familiar with it. But the vet said they don't recommend giving it to cats. She said they can get heartworms like dogs do, but she doesn't recommend giving heartguard to cats. But she said it was up to us to decide whether or not we want to and that some people do. I didn't think to ask the vet why while I was there (because I'm an idiot), so I was wondering if any of you knew why they don't recommend it? Also, how do they get heartworms? They're inside cats and litter box trained, so would it be less likely for them to get heartworms since they won't be going outside? Thanks.

I have to give my persian a dose of L-Lysine each day. I bought the tablets and have tried grinding them, smashing them, and lately letting them sit in a syringe overnight with water to dilute them. But they're grainy and my poor boy gages every time. Is there such a thing as liquid L-Lysine?

I am postive my 7 week old kitten has ear mites.
I can take her to the vet and get some medicine but I am fairly anti med so I was wondering if there is any household products that would work or something herbal?
I don't want her in pain so if I have to I will treat her but there seems to be herbal remedies for everything now a days :)
thanks!

I have 2 cats, that are sisters. We have had them since hours old, which has been for 8 yrs. Now one of the cats, Piglet, will lay under our computer desk, and she is breathing rather hard. And her sister, Wiggles, will not leave her side and everytime Wiggles sees someone she runs up to them and starts meowing and runs back to her sister. Piglet gets up and eats but then goes back to that same exact spot. If you have any answers please tll me!!!

Ok, my cat had 5 kittens, they were all fine until a kitten died on Wednesday, and then, we thought the others were great, until .. Yesterday, another kitten died, then today, one kitten died in the morning and one in the after noon. One is left ... but it may go the same way. What I noticed that the kittens would become more faint, and stop moving around so much and then become cold and they wouldn't feed .... The last one needs to survive but it may go the same way ! Any advice for my last kitten ?

She'll come to me for the petting and attention and then, while she's still purring and wanting to be petted in the same area, gives me a gentle bite for about 4 to 6 seconds and then lets me go... She still wants to be petted and wants the attention, I just can't think of any reason for the nibble...

Our cat sprays by all our windows and I know its because of the cats outside because for some reason there happens to be like 5-6 cats roaming around our apartment building. Every time I can so much he stops spraying for a little while but then it will start again. Does anyone think once we move and he isn't hearing these cats around that he wont spray??
Thanks!

I have a 6 year old cat (recently just got a few mo. old kitten). The older cat keeps trying to eat the kittens food and vica versa, but I have been sperating the 2 so they dont eat each others food. Lately, the older cat has been sqeemish about eating his own food (still wanting to eat kitten food). So, he doesnt eat quite as much as he usually does. The past day or so, he keeps on dry heaving, almost like he has a hairball that wont come out. I am not sure what to do, or if I should take him to the vet. Please help, I am really worried.

I have a male cat that is about 16 months old and he has been neutered since he was 6 months old and has all his shots. My female cat is about 9 months old, she has all her shots and the vet asked me about getting her spayed. To me it is like a real surgery and i don't know if i want her to go through that. Both of my cats are indoor cats and since Jack is neutered, is there any need to get Jill spayed?

I have read so many questions on here about either pets being pregnant or someone wanting to let their pet out for some "loving". Some just don't realize how important it is to have you pet fixed. As the video below will show there are so many homeless & unwanted pets that die every day. I worked in a shelter & seen countless number of animals die d/t no homes. Everytime you allow your animal to have babies, even if you do find good homes for the babies, you are taking a home away from a homeless shelter animal & probably giving that animal a death sentence. Many shelters still use the gas chamber & that is a horrible way to die for these animals. It can take up to 15 minutes for them to die & the poor animal is clawing so hard to get out of there that they actually RIP out their claws. That is inhumane and so terrible for an animal to spend their last moments alive. Here is the sight I mentioned above go there & click on your language;

Tuesday, my cat started vomiting up her food. At first we thought it was just from a hairball, although we did not find any hair where she got sick. She started hiding from the family, under beds and away from everyone when she usually likes to be around people. Wednesday, she got sick again so we took her to the vet. The vet said she had a slight temp. and gave her an antibotic, and something to settle her stomach in case she had a stomach flu. She also seemed dehydrated so the vet gave her some fluids. Now she won't eat at all or drink anything. The vet put her on an antibiotic to give her at home, took x-rays, and blood work. The x-rays did not reveal any problem and the blood work didn't find anything wrong with the cat either. She's still not eating, hiding from everyone, feels warm, and just sleeps. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I've been feeding these 2 kittens for a few months--they're about 5-6 months old now. All of a sudden 1 disappeared and the other one has started coming out in the daytime(he never has before) and just sitting by my shed that he lives under and crying off and on and sleeping sitting up. He has stopped eating-and I found alot of saliva in his dish and now there are pine needles stuck all over his nose and mouth which he hasn't bothered to clean off. I only see him drinking water--I think he's sick--not sure maybe just missing his sibling-- how do you tell? I've tried animal control--spca--etc--can't get anyone to do anything-- Animal control said maybe rabies--and call him today again --now he won't answer the phone.p.s. he's not friendly--I can't get near him. Thx!

My cat had kittens three days ago. She had three kittens. Two of them are alive and one was stillborn. My question is the mother cat does not want to eat very much and a very small amount at night. She is very skinny after she had the babies. should I worry or is this normal?

We got two adoreable kittens that were dumped at local pet store. Since we have two other cats, we kept them in our bathroom for several weeks. They are now 3 months and we slowly introduced them to the other cats. I moved the litter box by several feet to the garage (cats have pet door) over a week or more. I showed them the new place and helped them through the door. I thought everything was fine until I made the horrible discovery - the poop in "hidden" places!! I have put them back into the bathroom and they are using it there. But I want my bathroom back!! How do I get them using the litter box in the garage??

I bought a covered litter box because I just adopted another cat from the Animal Rescue League about 3 or 4 months ago and the smell with both of them after they went was getting pretty stinky ;) I showed them both how to get in the litter box and stuff and the 8 mo. old cat got it, but my older cat refused to use it and has been going on the carpeted steps instead which really irritates my roommates that live up there. I tried taking off the door and showing here again. I tried just taking the cover off and she still won't use it anymore. I tried putting her poop in the litter box and letting her see it and petting her and the same while yelling... She's also been set on sneaking out of the house for 3 day periods of time when she's been an indoor cat for the past 2 years. She used to never even leave the yard. I don't know what happened. I thought maybe it was because of the new cat but why was she fine with her for the first 4-5 months then?
How can I get my old cat back?!
