My cat had kittens three days ago. She had three kittens. Two of them are alive and one was stillborn. My question is the mother cat does not want to eat very much and a very small amount at night. She is very skinny after she had the babies. should I worry or is this normal?

My cat did exactly the same a few years ago so we took her to the vet and got told to feed her on small portions of fresh boiled chicken and milk for about a week (cost a small fortune, the cat ate better than we did). Got told to go back i f she didn't improve but luckily she did and we didn't need to take her back.

Most cats will look very thin after having kittens. Unless she looks like she is going to die, she will be fine. Most of the time, a cat will tend to her kittens before she eats much of anything. If she simply doesn't eat much in the next couple of days, take her to a vet. I really believe that your cat will be fine. Her appetite should be back to normal soon. Just give her plenty of water and food to eat during the day. Again, if you are very worried, take them all to the vet.

I recommend you take her to the vet for an exam. She may have a retained placenta or a dead kitten still inside her, and if untreated that will lead to a massive uterine infection that could kill your cat.

The mother cat should be eating more than usual, not less, because she needs to produce milk. Something is wrong.

being a little thin after birth is normal (they just put tons of energy in to these kittens), but not eating isn't. mother cats need to have nourishment so that the kittens get milk. you might want to get a vet check-up.

Call the vet and ask. In the meantime, try giving her a good canned kitten food.

A simple phone call to a good vet will resolve this for you. If they think its normal they will tell you ,if not ,they will try to make an appointment to see her.It could be she is just mourning for her baby.If she nurses her babies well then I wouldnt worry too much,She will eat when she gets ready.
and she knows she has to eat to feed her babies!

I would think that being skinny would be normal but you need to make sure she eats. I always give my female pets milk when they are nursing.

Just make sure she is producing enough milk for her babies, but call the vet just to be safe.
