He is six years old and has only ran away one other time for three days in the middle of July! This is the dead of winter, freezing cold - he is used to being inside in the warmth. I am afraid he has frozen to death. I have been up and down the road calling his name, put an ad in the paper. I have even left the door to my sunroom with food open in hopes that if he comes back he will go in there. I just don't know where he could be!

We just found a kitty, he's an unneutered male, probably about 2 years old, at a good weight. He was more than likely a recent dump seeing as he's so affectionate with humans. If you can't tell me a good brand of food, maybe can you tell me what I need to look for in the ingredients label?

Obviously, the recycling truck isn't going to want the smelly stuff. But throwing it in the trash feels wrong to me, especially if trash is incinerated, as it is where I live. Is there a better practice than tossing it in the trash truck?

Cats are listed among the top 100 worst invasive species.
I've read an estimate that cats may be killing 566 million birds each year, and are listed as the major contributing factor in the extinction of the Guadalupe storm petrel (Oceanodrama macrodactyla), and red-fronted parakeet. As an interesting note, a single cat was isolated as the cause of killing the last Stephen Island Wren (Traversia lyalli) population, thereby driving it to extinction in New Zealand in 1894. There are several initiatives to eliminate cats entirely from a number of islands due to their destructive influence on the natural fauna.

Why then do cat lovers seem to think it is their right to let their cats roam free and that anyone that tells them to keep their cat indoors (as is the LAW where I'm from) or takes steps to control cats in our environment is "cruel" or "mean"?

Is is abhorently irresponsible to let your cat outdoors unattended. Let alone unneutered and/or without immunizations.

My cat, Corwin (Prince Corwin of Amber) is a cross between a Lilac Point Himalayan and a Siamese. He has lovely markings, with a black nose, cornflower blue eyes, black ears, tawny and gray (blue) fur, a blue tail and black paws. My sister, who is a cat breeder, says he is purebred "Snowshoe," a breed just recently recognized. But the Cat Fancy web site says snowshoes have white paws. His sister from the same litter has white paws. Are either of them purebreds? Not that it matters. Corwin is a wonderful cat. I just want to know if he's really a "Snowshoe" or just a "Himmie-cross."

I just had my kittens fixed yesterday( male and female. ) The vet told us to watch them and make sure they dont lick there area too much where the incisions were made. I forgot to asky why exactly. She told us if they did start licking alot that we would have to put those funny collars on them. So, why is it so bad for them to lick thier wound??

This is an adult (1-2 yr) black and white tuxedo cat, spayed female. I got her in September from a shelter. At the time, she did not chew wires. But about 2 months later she chewed through some and damaged more. She continued to do this intermiittently, but now it is an obsession. She is watching me right now and is staring at her next objective: a lamp cord. I do not know how to make her stop. Can anyone tell me what t do to stop this?
Thank you
Camilla

My Maine Coon cat seems to be brushing away something on the water surface with her paw before she drinks. She does this whether drinking from her own clean water bowl or from a dirty puddle outside. I've never seen another cat do this.

I have got a scratching post for my cat but she won't use it. Ive had the cat for 5 years but she ignores the s. post walks straight past it and claws away at the sofa. Anyone had this problem with their cat and what did you do about it?

We've never let the sleep with us before, but we do occasionally let them in to wake us up at the weekends.

I think the change is because they've grown up, and their voices and scratching is a little louder.

There's not really anyway to shut them in a different part of the house and I'm not keen on letting them in the room at night, I'm far too light a sleeper and they like to move around.

Any suggestions?

We have 2 very happy, spoilt British Shorthair cats we rescued from 2 different breeders. One was kept in a cage and had to endure big dogs and teasing kids (hence very nervous when first arrived). They've never been outside as that's the way they were bred and we've been advised it's safer for them. We've had the expected comments from people that don't know about pedigree cats being raised as indoor - what do we say to people who think it's cruel (one neighbour has turned against us) - and should we consider letting them out if we move to a place with a garden? Would they cope and not catch everything under the sun?
