See if you can find a child's chair and have it covered for your cat. My Stimpy sits anywhere she wants, but the stuff holds up good.

We have microfiber furniture and the cat hair sticks to it like crazy. We ended up having to cover it up with a blanket since I hated vacuuming it off everyday. The claw holes show up pretty bad too.

Our couch in our house is Microfiber, and of course Mr. Man is declawed in the front. So is our office chair, by the way, microfiber. He hasn't done any damage to the couch or the office chair at all that I can tell. Seems like it collects hair a little easier than other fabrics, so we have to vaccum the couch a little more, but other than that it seems to stand up pretty well overall.

We opted for microfiber furniture over other types because there is less for him to grab onto...no loops or stitches. We will never get leather because he will scratch and it is not easy to fix or mask. Right now we have "Soft Paws" on his front paws which work like lee press on nails and cover his claws with plastic caps. They grow off eventually and are great for the furniture.

Cats have different personalities. My cat died recently, aged 19, and was the best cat I've ever had. It was constantly wanting to be around people and very affectionate. No it wouldn't have served as an intruder deterrent, but he slept in my bed like a person (body under the covers, head on the pillow) and was always good company and made me feel loved. Yes, there are cats which don't make the best pets, but there are also ones like mine which do.

If you mean the stuff that looks and feels like smooth suede, that gives me visions of numerous puncture holes. Even if the cat uses a scratching post, they use their claws to jump up and down off the furniture. I have a textured couch that doesn't show marks at all.
