You should be able to tell she is pregnant, her tummy on either side will be getting bigger and during the later stages you might even see the kittens moving about inside the womb (we did with one of our cats and it was amazing to watch them move). Also, her nipples will be tender to touch and will be larger than usual.
When she is getting close to giving birth she will wash her back end lots, paying lots of attention to it, and she'll start to 'nest', she will find somewhere quiet to go to give birth. When she shows these signs don't let her out of the house as you won't be able to help her if you need to.
Cats normally get on with the birth with no need for help, just keep an eye on her and make sure her tummy looks normal afterwards (ie there are no bulges in there afterwards). Don't disturb her too much.

If she's in labor, then she is anxious, may look around to find a nice spot for her kittens. I'd keep her inside today and put a litter box if you don't have one inside. Don't put her out in case she decides to have them outside somewhere. (I don't know if it's winter where you are or not). It takes a few hours for them to ALL come out. Its' common for cats to have 4 kittens, but it can be anywhere from 2-6, I think!

Their stomach gets bigger when they're pregnant. When the cat is having the kittens it will probably meow a lot.

They usually find a quiet spot and stay put but tense for a while. Then little kittens start popping out.

Well , first see if she is very fat. Then, if she is very big, lay out a blanket and box for her to lay in. If she is, then if gets there and pops them out, u have kittens!
