It is totally unnecessary to get rid of your cat because you're pregnant. Your obstetrician can test to see if you already are immune to toxoplasmosis because you've already had it. If you've had it, you can't get it again so you're safe. If you're not immune, then you either need to have someone else change the litter or wear latex/plastic gloves when you do this. Simply touching the cat is not dangerous -- it's only the litter that you need be concerned about. By the way, you can also get toxoplasmosis from gardening (touching dirt) or touching raw meat. The fear of cats is totally out of proportion to any real risk. This link from the Web site of the American Academy of Family Physicians will explain more about the disease and the precautions you need to take -- and you can see, there's a lot more to worry about than a cat, and nowhere does it mention having to dump the cat.

Wait...So your pregnant...and you want to give away your cat...as it poses a risk.
I don't think your cat is posing is risk to you when your pregnant or your baby. Just be sure to clean the house when your baby is born and it should be fine.
If you really want to get rid of your cat then phone a shelter like the RSPCA or whatever. Or you could put an add up on the internet or newspaper. Someone's bound to want you cat.
Good luck with the baby and the cat...

The cat poses no threat. Just avoid the litter box and if you must clean it..wear gloves. I had 4 cats with both of my pregnancies.

You can call the local SPCA or animal control, and they will take the cat for you. The phone numbers should be free.
