He is six years old and has only ran away one other time for three days in the middle of July! This is the dead of winter, freezing cold - he is used to being inside in the warmth. I am afraid he has frozen to death. I have been up and down the road calling his name, put an ad in the paper. I have even left the door to my sunroom with food open in hopes that if he comes back he will go in there. I just don't know where he could be!

Have you checked the local animal shelters? Put up flyers in your neighborhood?

I was an animal control officer for 15 yrs. It never ceased to amaze me how many people wouldn't check the animal shelter for lost pets. Anyway, cats are stange creatures sometimes. I have heard of many instances where a cat would choose a "second home" for a few days and then return to his/her real home. Others may stay gone for weeks, or even months. I guess it depends on the cat?!?

Check your local shelter, and stay vigilant in searching for him. Call local veterinarians and see if anyone has brought one in that was injured. Not to try and scare you, but this time of year is bad for what we called fan belt kitties. Cats seeking warmth will crawl into the engine compartment of cars/trucks and the unsuspecting motorist would start the car and get the cat caught in the fan belts. So check the local vets. But don't give up on the cat or think the worst. He's probably curled up in someones garage or some kids room... Good luck....

My cat ran away for two weeks in the summer. What you do is leave a bowl of food outside your door, but only a small amount, enough dry food to cover the bottom of the bowl. Get your cat used to coming back and remembering where your house is.

Get a butterfly net because I know cats like to run away. Your cat has a fur coat.

Hopefully your cat is okay! Try not to worry so much as he'll probably come home soon. My neighbors cats live outside and it's freezing cold here too. I personally keep my cat inside however I once had a cat that got outside by accident and she was declawed. She was missing for about 2 months. She was living under my friends shed and I really didn't think she was alive, but luckily one day my friend caught her & called me up so I could go get my cat! :) Have faith your cat will come home! Best wishes!

I dont think hes dead. Its colder than that here and I see some strays running about and I dont think they ever go inside. My cat ran away for almost a week back in july and I was scared that he was dead, finally he came home but he was sick, we nursed him back to health and never let him go outside again. I dont recommend letting your kitty go outside because there are so many dangers out there. Keep your cat inside and then you wont have to worry. I really hope you find your cat, I know how you are feeling right now. Best of luck!

Check the animal shelter, just to be sure. You could try and put up flyers with his picture and your phone number. Cats are fairly industrious, hopefully he found a place to keep warm. Was he neutered? That can help keep him from wandering. I had a cat run away and never came back. Hopefully it found another home. They are at risk to getting hit by a car or sometimes even hawks...or starvation

Sometimes kitties like to stray mostly looking to mate. It is the time of year that they will start. I think your doing right by leaving the door open and some food for kitty. Don't give up hope. All of a sudden kitty could appear out of thin air ready for your loving!!!

Cats will go away for days , and they wont return until they feel like it. Or maybe someone has it. Just wait a couple of more days then ask people around your neighborhood if they seen a cat..

The cat will be fine he has a fur coat and is more than likely under a house to stay warm, that could be why you can't find him and why he can't hear you.
