My neighbor's cat was bleeding because he got into a fight w/ another neighbor's cat. The cat is fond of me. Since the neighbor is doesn't care for him, and his ear is bleeding right now, what can I do?

Any suggestions to stop the bleeding?

Because it is not my cat, I don't know how I can take it to the vet.
If I ask the neighbor, he might not be at home, or not really be concerned.

If it a large, serious wound, go to the vet. If not: Clean it as best you can - warm saline is best (slightly salty water). If the bleeding does not stop on it's own, apply slight pressure (if you can - you may need someone else to help you hold the cat -- make a kitty burrito by rolling him gently but firmly in a towel - so he cannot get away or scratch you).

The most important thing is to clean his wound - cats are prone to abscesses if the wounds stay dirty. You may still want to make a call to your neighbor - the cat may need antibiotics.

Best of luck

I should advice the neighbor right away! i mean sometimes i ask myself why do people have pets if they don't take care of them!take him to the vet tell the neighbor if the person is not there than just take the cat to the animal hospital!if you want to stop the bleeding for a while get a wet damp cloth and hold it to its ears! poor thing i feel bad for the cat already! dump the cloth with warm water! and tell the neighbor to TAKE CARE OF THE PET! the cat should not go outside cause it could get into another fight with the cat that attacked it last time!do you have a pet if you don't then tell your neighbor to give the cat to you because the person is not gonna wanna waste money on the cat that the person does not take care!

If the bleeding is severe then take it to an emergency vet or call animal control and they will see to it that the animal gets care. The owner will not know you had it taken it if yu call animal control. They may see the truck that comes for it but proably won't piece togehter that it is their cat as they give anonymous statements. He'll assume you had another animal picked up like a dog unless you tell otherwise. Animal control or the vet will have the neighbor called when it is time to pick it up and is well enough to go home.

If it is not bad, then just take him next door. Cats do this all the time. It may scar if he does not take care of it for his pet or not. You could keep it a few days and heal it until you thought no infection but just be careful if he comes to your house he doesn't see his cat there. Once infection risk gone, toss it back outside so it can go home.

If the bleeding has stopped now, it is important to ensure the cut is clean, or else kitty may get an infection. You could use regular soap and tepid water, but the best would be an antibacterial treatment like bactine. Make sure to use just a little, or wipe it off after a minute or two so the cat doesn't ingest it when cleaning.

try to contact the neighbor. if you take it to the vet the neighbor may not reimburse you.. if you can't get ahold of neihgbor. take a wet soft washcloth and hold to injured area. after cleaned. carfeully pour a small amount of peroxide onto ,but not into ear. be aware that the poor kitty is probably in pain, and might bite or scratch. ( our nighbors cat has a notch in her ear where she lost part of it. ) there is a powder at pet shops called quik stop. it acts like a scyptic pencil and stops small bleeding. when nails are ut too close. it may buy time if cut is not too big.

when my kitty bleeds i wear a tampon!!

just kidding

get a warm damp rag and apply pressure. then you really should take him to the vet because he might need stitches and you don't want the wound to get infected.

http://www.sniksnak.com/cathealth/firstaid.html thats a website for feline first aid. you really do need to find a way to get him to the vet because bloodloss or infection could kill him. clean the wound with 1% hydrogen peroxide and apply sterile dressing. keep the cat indoors in a small room until you can get him some help. since he got bit by another can he most likely will need antibiotics (clavamox) twice a day for about 6 days to prevent any kind of bacterial infection. the cat also may need to have his rabies shot updated.

doing nothing really isnt an option. if your neighbor won't take him to the vet you should call animal cruelty. doing this would most likely result in the cat being put to sleep, however, at least he won't have to live in pain or die slowly from an infection.

check out the link i gave you, try to get a hold of your neighbor, and if you dont hear anything in a day or two call animal cruelty - good luck!

Clean the ear with a soft warm cloth and then put a white gauze around the ear. Then you might want 2 go to the vet to see if ur cat has an infection or not. It helps stop the bleeding! =)♥

I wouldn't care who "owned" the cat, I'd take the cat to the vet. I realize you'll get stuck with the bill, but it's the cat's welfare that is important. He may have been badly injured. And frankly, I'd help that cat disappear if he's not being cared for -- happens all the time to cats who are left outside -- one day he will simply not come home -- but you will have found him a good home some distance away, preferably one where he is kept safely inside.

o that is bad, i feel sorry for the cat, the only thing i think you can do, because its not your cat, is just wash the ear with some water, and if you have a bandage roll, then just roll it around his ear. not too tight though. You can also always call a vet and tell them what happend, because you never know if the other cat had a desiese, and that cat might die!

ok good luck

The cat needs a Vet! If your neighbor wont take the cat then please take him that would be a very kind thing for you to do. (Kind to the cat not the neighbor) I'd ask the neighbor if you can have the cat sense he likes you.
