my 8yr old mae desexed cat has lost his voice over 3 days...when he goes to meow its so crackly n demented lol
hes not in any pain..he eats ....plays.....is his "normal" self but heas just lost his voice lol
has anyone got any advice on what might be causing his lost voice

yeah he has his motor going..(purring) .if anything hes appetite has sky rocketed..as hes usually a picky eater ..but hes active..his eyes are clear ..he's very alert and drink water ..just no "meow" lol

I've had this happen with two of my cats but at different times. First the voice got raspy, then got raspy and more quite until after a few days nothing came out when they tried to meow. Since they both seemed very healthy I just ignored it to see what would happen. About 4 or 5 days later, their voices just came back. Very odd. So, I know this can happen but I don't think it's common. If it persists, there is probably a reason for it. In that case you should take him to the vet to get him checked out.

If your cat has been able to meow all of his life and then all of a sudden he can't I think the best thing to do would be to take him to the Vet and have him checked out.
It maybe nothing, but having him checked can't hurt...better safe than sorry.
Just on a side note, we have four cats...one of them has NEVER meowed and she's 6 years old.
We were concerned so we took her to the Vet, he checked her over and there is nothing at all wrong with her, she just doens't meow.
But since your cat was able to meow and now can't, a trip to the Vet is in order.

We have had 2 cats that have lost their voices for no reason and there was nothing wrong with them but you should always take them to a vet to be checked. Hairballs can become very dangerous if that is the problem.

has he had many hairballs before this? I would get him checked by a vet because three days is a long time without being able to "talk". Can he still purr?

I think something must have chocked in his throat. Immediately take the cat to vet doctor.
